About this file
This document is a Bid Bond Preparation Instructions form for a West Virginia state agency procurement process. The form provides a template for businesses to complete a bid bond, which is a type of surety bond that guarantees a bidder will enter into a contract if their bid is accepted. The form includes detailed instructions for filling out various sections, such as identifying the principal (bidding company), surety (insurance company), and specific bid details. The bond amount is typically set at 5% of the total bid value, and the form requires signatures from authorized representatives of the principal and surety.
The document emphasizes critical requirements for the bid bond, including that the surety must be licensed in West Virginia, must affix its seal, and must attach a power of attorney. The bond serves as a legal instrument protecting the state's interests by ensuring that if a bid is accepted, the bidder will follow through with the contract and provide any required additional bonds or insurance. The form is standardized with specific fields marked from (A) to (W) to guide completions, and it was last revised in June 2013.
