About this file
This document is a Landing Gear Requirements Document (Drawing 201416605, Revision F) issued by the U.S. Air Force OO-ALC at Hill AFB that establishes engineering requirements for landing gear component part manufacture across multiple weapon systems.
The document provides comprehensive technical specifications covering materials, processing, finishing, inspection, heat treatment, and manufacturing processes for landing gear components. Key material specifications include 300M steel, 4340 and 4330 mod steel, corrosion-resistant steel (Ferrium S53), aluminum alloys (7075 and 2024), and beryllium copper. Processing requirements mandate compliance with standards including MIL-STD-866 for grinding, SAE AMS2430 for shot peening, and specific thread specifications per SAE AS 8879. Finishing requirements specify multiple coating options: LHE Zn-Ni plating per MIL-DTL-32648, cadmium plating per MIL-STD-870, chromium plating per MIL-STD-1501, anodizing per MIL-PRF-8625, and epoxy or polyurethane paint systems. Inspection requirements include magnetic particle inspection (MPI) per ASTM E1444, fluorescent penetrant inspection (FPI) per ASTM E1417, ultrasonic inspection per SAE AMS-STD-2154, and hardness testing per ASTM E 18. The document addresses forging and casting qualification procedures, bushing installation methods using sub-zero cooling techniques with liquid nitrogen, unique weapon system requirements (A-10, B-1, B-2, B-52, C-5, C-130, F-15, F-16, KC-135, and others), part marking and identification requirements using IUID per MIL-STD-130, and Material Review Board (MRB) disposition procedures. All contractors must certify full compliance prior to contract award, and the USAF Landing Gear Systems Engineering retains approval authority over manufacturing process variations and MRB dispositions.
