Annex 1 to the Statement of Objectives (SOO)

SCALING UP INVESTMENT IN WEATHER AND

CLIMATE INFORMATION SERVICES IN SENEGAL ACTIVITY (WCIS 2 ACTIVITY)

Annex 1: List of EG Projects for the Layering

An indicative, and not a limitative list of activities (projects) under the EG Portfolio to be considered for the layering with the WCIS 2 Activity is provided here under the Annex 1 to the

SOO

Activity Name Goal

FtF Senegal Doolel Mbay (FTF Value Chain Systems or VCS)

The Activity seeks to achieve mutually supportive objectives: increased productivity, access to markets and trade, employment as well as enterprise development along food value chains. It will also enhance risk management capacities and climate resilience. It will thus, translate into increased women and youth economic empowerment, lessening poverty.

FtF Senegal Dundel Suuf (FtF Senegal Fertilizer Activity)

This mechanism aims to increase agricultural productivity. It increases the availability and use of new and quality fertilizers through efficient private sector-led supply systems, which improve and sustain soil fertility in Senegal. The expected results are: improved and appropriate fertilizer formulas and soil maps are developed and made available to farmers; proven and environmentally sound fertilizer products and technologies are disseminated and upscaled;

and the fertilizer policy and regulatory environment is improved, all of which will integrate climate and weather parameters.

FtF Senegal Dekkal Geej This Activity addresses the drivers of direct threats to ecosystems, habitats, and species by:

building coalitions for institutional and behavioral change toward improved management; effective deterrence of IUU fishing; new models of co-management and decentralization; improved livelihoods;

improved capacity to adapt to environmental and climatic shocks and support to the development of bankable projects under the Fisheries National Adaptation Plan; evidence-based policies and decision-making.

FtF Senegal Nafoore Warsadji This activity aims to unlock opportunities to commercialize horticulture for rural farmers through bundling packages of technology and technical support services thus, improving diet diversity and addressing the nutrition gap.

Project activities will focus on increasing the quality and quantity of horticulture production and its commercialization, reducing risks to the horticulture supply chain through improved partnerships, planning, and capacity building. It will facilitate the engagement of financial institutions and horticulture value chain actors to catalyze innovative financial products and services.

FtF Senegal Kawolor (Cultivating Nutrition and the Successor to Kawolor)

The Kawolor Activity supports the Government of Senegal's efforts to improve the nutritional status of its population by increasing the production, marketing, and consumption of diversified, healthy and nutritious food products among 1.5 million Senegalese, focusing particularly on reducing nutritional deficiencies of young children and women of reproductive age.

FtF Senegal Policy Systems Strengthening (FtF

PSS)

The aim of the FtF PSS Activity is to: 1) enhance the use of evidence-based information for policy decision-making by building the capacity of government entities in charge of policy formulation and reinforcing their engagement with different stakeholders in a context of climate change; and 2) enhance the capacity of the private sector and civil society to influence policy formulation and implementation. The strengthened policy enabling environment and policy processes will in turn, attract greater private investments, improve competitiveness, and support domestic resource mobilization, which will help to accelerate inclusive growth.

SURE/Senegal SURE Senegal offers catalytic grant windows that crowd-in private capital to innovative business models in renewable energy in Senegal. A flexible funding mechanism ensures climate adaptation and resilience is incorporated throughout the process of grants allocation and technical assistance.

Senegal Water Resources Management (WRM) The (WRM) Activity will advance sustainable and inclusive water management in promotion of viable livelihoods. The activity will focus on: 1) water resource management processes and biodiversity conservation; 2) water for productive uses (especially agriculture); and 3) improved formal and informal governance of water resources. It will address climate-related risks, including activities that improve the capacity of national, basin-level, and local actors to assess and embed climate risks into their budgets, plans, policies, and operations. The activity will improve the quality of access to sustainable water for human consumption and agricultural use.

Entrepreneurship Promotion and Business Investment Program (E&I)

This activity addresses the significant challenges of youth unemployment by promoting entrepreneurship, with a principal focus on youth and women. Each year, 300,000 new young job seekers enter the Senegalese labor market, with 50 percent in rural areas. The rural economy provides the majority of employment opportunities occupied by youth, who own over 60 percent of the micro, small, and medium enterprises nationwide. This activity addresses the significant barriers and challenges that prevent these businesses to scale up into viable enterprises that can create wealth for their owners and employees.
