About this file
This document is a Structural Interior Design (SID) Type B-3 Submittal for the ME ANG Fuel Cell Hangar project at Bangor Air National Guard Base in Maine (Project No. FKNN159044), prepared by BlairRemy Architects and Otie Merrick in August 2025.
The submittal establishes comprehensive interior design standards for a new 101st Air Refueling Wing fuel cell hangar facility. The design incorporates a cool, analogous color scheme with materials prioritizing durability, appearance retention, and sustainability. Color blocking is utilized as a visual cue to maintain personnel flow from dirty to clean areas, with green-painted partitions in clean spaces and gray-painted partitions in dirty areas. Key interior finishes include lay-in acoustic ceiling tiles in offices and corridors; moisture and mold-resistant gypsum board in wet areas; exposed painted structure in the hangar bay, tool room, and support areas. Flooring specifications vary by space: 5-coat fuel-resistive epoxy with slip-resistant finish in vestibules, corridors, hangar bay, tool room, and restrooms per UFC 4-211-01; sheet linoleum in the supervisor's office; and static-dissipative vinyl tile in the communications room. Restrooms feature porcelain tile wainscot with full-height tile at lavatories, solid phenolic toilet partitions, acrylic shower basins, and solid surface material surrounds. The multipurpose room includes plastic laminate casework, solid surface countertops, and porcelain tile backsplash. Stainless-steel corner guards protect exposed gypsum board corners. Interior signage complies with UFC 3-120-01, including confined space, PSI notification, and eyewash/shower station signage within the hangar bay. The submittal includes finish material samples, architectural floor plans, interior elevations, room finish schedules, casework sections, and detailed signage specifications with mounting requirements and location plans across multiple areas of the facility.

COMPREHENSIVE INTERIOR DESIGN (CID)
The goal of the Comprehensive Interior Design (CID) for the new Fuel Cell Hangar is to create a safe, functional, and attractive space in which to carry out the mission of 101 ARW.
FURNITURE, FIXTURES AND EQUIPMENT (FF&E)
The FF&E package has been provided under a separate cover.
EXTERIOR FINISHES
The Exterior Finish package has been provided under a separate cover.

Project No. FKNN159044
Color blocking has been utilized as a visual cue to assist in maintaining the flow of personnel from dirty to clean areas of the facility. Partitions in rooms designated as clean spaces will receive a green painted finish, and those occurring in rooms designated as dirty will receive gray.
Exposed outside gypsum wall board corners will receive stainless-steel corner guards.
Ceilings, Doors, and Windows

Corridors. Moisture and mold resistant gypsum board will be used in all wet areas, such as Restrooms, Showers, and Locker Rooms. Gypsum board will also be provided in the Vestibule and Comm Room. The
Hangar Bay, Tool Room, Janitor Closet, and building support areas will be exposed to the structure above and painted.
Doors will have metal leaves, and both doors and windows will have metal frames. All will receive a painted finish. Windows will receive an Soild Surface Material (SSM) sill to provide a durable and maintainable surface. Light filtering roller shades will be provided at all windows for visual privacy and glare control.
Vestibules and Corridors
Both corridors provide direct access to the Hangar Bay; they will receive a 5-coat, fuel-resistive epoxy flooring with slip resistant finish in accordance with UFC 4-211-01. A recessed entry mat will be provided at the Vestibule, and both spaces will receive resilient rubber wall base, and painted partitions.

01. Partitions in the Hangar Bay will be concrete masonry units (CMU), with prefinished insulated metal panels above. CMU partitions have also been planned for the Tool Room. Masonry will receive a gray painted finish to better mask soiling and signs of wear, and wall base will not be provided as it is not necessary.
The Hangar Bay will be receive safety markings in accordance with UFC 4-211-01.
