About this file
This document is a comprehensive guide to Building Codes and Standards for the Bureau of Land Management (BLM), updated on 02/11/2025. The document details a wide range of national codes, standards, laws, federal policies, regulations, and DOI standards that must be followed for building design and construction, with a strong emphasis on energy efficiency, accessibility, and compliance with the latest building and safety codes.
Key requirements include adhering to the 2021 versions of various International Codes (IBC, IEBC, IFC, etc.), NFPA standards, and specific energy efficiency regulations such as 10 CFR Part 433 and 435, which mandate a 30% energy use reduction below baseline standards for commercial and residential buildings. Contractors must document detailed code compliance in construction drawings, covering aspects like occupancy classification, building height, fire resistance, accessibility, and energy code performance. The document also highlights specific laws like the Architectural Barriers Act and federal policies such as the Guiding Principles for Sustainable Federal Buildings, underscoring the comprehensive and stringent building standards required for BLM projects.
