Boulder Canyon Project, Arizona, Nevada
Dated: December 5, 2023
This page intentionally left blank.
FOREWORD
The transformers are physically located on the downstream ramp of Hoover Dam.
Hoover Dam is approximately 8 miles northeast of Boulder City, Nevada and 32 miles from Las
Vegas, in Clark County, Nevada.
The transformers are located on the Arizona side of the power plant.
The transformers are three phase transformers manufactured by ABB (Asea Brown
Boveri). The transformers have a nameplate rating of 135MVA and hold 11,710 gallons of oil each. The transformer is class FOW (Forced Oil and Water). The transformer designations are
KA3A and KA5A. Serial numbers are:
KA3A: 6311-786
KA5A: 6311-789
Hoover is seeking a contractor to supply materials to replace aging and failing components on both GSU (generator step-up) transformers. Additionally, we are seeking a company to handle oil removal, transformer dry-out (if necessary), oil processing and addition of oxygen inhibitor to the oil. Details of what is required for oil processing and dry-out will be described later in this document.
Company supplying materials is asked to contact Hitachi Energy to confirm parts supplied under this contract will fit the listed transformers.
