New River Gorge National Park and Preserve Canyon Rim Visitor Center

Submitted: March 10, 2021

AV TREATMENTS, PD1

EP-01.01-500 ENTRANCE VIDEO

OVERVIEW: The park’s existing welcome video provides information on the day’s events and what visitors need to know to begin their exploration of the park. This new configuration will include an all-in-one unit that incorporates a non-glare digital screen with built-in CPU. This robust, commercial-grade monitor provides a durable, non-glare surface that will withstand visitor interaction and sunlight entering through the windows. Built into one of the window bays, this new exhibit will blend seamlessly into the architecture of the building. While the system can have CMS capability, the park will need to work with the fabricator and AV programmer to determine its functionality. A traditional monitor display with BrightSign unit could be speced as a viable, simple replacement.

TOTAL RUN TIME: Variable

DESCRIPTION OF ACCESSIBILITY: All text will appear on the screen so no captions are needed. As a part of the audio description welcome track, the describer should encourage visitors to speak to a park ranger at the front desk for more information on the day’s events.

DESCRIPTION OF EQUIPMENT: The info video will play on a 55” Samsung PM55H digital signage monitor with built-in CMS chip. This provides an “all-in-one” solution that eliminates the need for an additional media player.

DESCRIPTION OF CONTROL SYSTEM: This is a looping video and does not require input from visitors. Park staff will either utilize a content management system on the back end to easily update the content based on the day’s news and activities or preload each day’s information directly into the display.

SOURCE: This program will utilize information from the park’s current welcome video.

The new content management system will enable park staff to easily update the video with information pertinent to that day.

Non-Glare Panel Makes Messages Easier to See Messages are easier to see with non-glare, anti-reflective panels that reduce reflection up to 44%. Text is legible, visuals have maximum impact (PM32F does not have a non-glare panel).

Ultra-Slim, ADA-Compliant Profile of 1.2" Samsung PMH Series signage panels are just 1.2" thin (PM32F is 1.1" thin), so they’re ADA-compliant when mounted with the appropriate mount.

Next Gen SSP 4.0 Powered by Tizen OS The Samsung Smart Signage Platform 4.0 delivers a powerful, all-in-one solution. The PMF panel’s internal CPU and high-performance video processor deliver an integrated media player platform, eliminating the need for an external set-back box or PC.

EP-01.02-500 THREE-PARKS AV MONITORS

OVERVIEW: Exciting videos from each park show activities like climbing, camping, hiking, fishing, rafting, and kayaking. Visitors should quickly understand some of the activities they can do in each of the three parks. From park-supplied videos, an AV producer should assemble 3 separate looping videos, one for each park, based on the following activities:

NERI: Climbing, camping, mountain biking, scenic drives, exploring historic sites

BLUE: Hiking, fishing, birdwatching, paddling, hunting

GARI: Whitewater rafting, camping, fishing

TOTAL RUN TIME: ~ 2 minutes each (looping)

DESCRIPTION OF ACCESSIBILITY: Videos will have no audio or text and should be audio described through the NPS app.

DESCRIPTION OF EQUIPMENT: Each video will play on a BrightSign LS424 media player connected to a 27” ELO 2794L LCD touchscreen monitor (note that while touchscreen capability is not needed for this exhibit, we have sourced this equipment for its durability and to offer flexible options for future iterations of this exhibit).

DESCRIPTION OF CONTROL SYSTEM: These videos will play on a loop, no activation is necessary.

SOURCE: Park to provide the video material for these monitors.

Physical Dimensions 5.1’’ x 4.0’’ x 1.4”

Inputs, Outputs & Controls Power Light (PWR) The power light is turned on when power is applied.

Trigger Input Terminals: T1 - T4, GD These inputs are internally pulled up to 3.3Vdc and seen as logic “1” if actively driven by a DC signal within the range of 3.3V to 5V (for units purchased before October 2015) or 3.3V to 40V (for units purchased in/after Octorber 2015), or simply left undriven. To be seen as logic “0” these inputs must be actively driven to 0V (ground).

The GD terminal is ground, connected internally to the power ground.

Reset Input Terminal: RS Pull this input down to the ground momentarily to reset the unit. Min. duration is 100 ms.

This input has the same pull-up characteristics as the trigger inputs.

Busy Output Terminal: BY This open collector output from an internal transistor can be controlled with more flex-ibility if the unit runs in the Script mode. In all other modes it is automatically turned on while playing audio, with a maximum sink current of 200 mA. It can be used to synchro-nously activate an external relay for switching on a device such as a lamp or a motor.

Power Input Terminals: V+, GD Use a well regulated DC power supply to obtain the best sound quality. Connect the power supply’s positive output to terminal V+, and the negative output to terminal GD.

Line Output (LINE): 1/8” Stereo Phone Jack This jack provides single ended line output.

Balance Knob (BAL) This knob adjusts the output balance between the two channels. It should be set at the middle (center detent) if the unit is configured for BTL (bridge tied load) mono out.

Volume Knob (VOL) Turn this knob clockwise to increase the output volume. It affects both the speaker and the line out.

Speaker Output Terminals: LF (left channel), GD, RT (right channel) See the Speaker Connections section.

Relay Output Terminals (EM34A-R & EM34A-X only) These terminals are on the back of the unit. Three terminals are provided for each relay: NC (Normally Closed), NO (Normally Open) and Common. The contact is rated at 12A/120VAC or 10A/24VDC.

EP-04.04-150 PUSHBUTTON SOUNDS

OVERVIEW: While exploring the pushbutton rail highlighting the diverse plants and animals in New River Gorge, visitors can press two buttons that trigger audio. One plays the sound of birds in the park and the other plays sounds of amphibians. These audio tracks further connect visitors to the sights and sounds of New River Gorge. The tracks are short, minimizing any lingering ambient sound in the enclosed exhibit room.

TOTAL RUN TIME: ~ 5 seconds each

DESCRIPTION OF ACCESSIBILITY: Text on the panel will note that there is sound associated with these two pushbuttons and briefly describe the sound. Pushbutton can also be operated by a closed fist.

DESCRIPTION OF EQUIPMENT: Visitors begin the audio track by pressing a Bulgin MP0037/2 vandal resistant pushbutton. The audio file lives on an Eletech QuikWave EM34A audio player and plays through a BOSE Freespace DS 16F speaker embedded in the exhibit structure below.

DESCRIPTION OF CONTROL SYSTEM: Visitors begin the brief audio clip by pressing the pushbutton on the reader rail.
