About this file

This attachment describes how the Defense Logistics Agency manages precious metal scrap. The DLA classifies scrap using a Scrap Classification code, which is a three-digit alphanumeric identifier. It further identifies scrap using a nine-digit Local Stock Number that includes a five-digit place holder, the three-digit SCL code, and a one-digit DEMIL code. An example is provided of codes for copper-based electronic scrap and silver-bearing film scrap. A full description of all possible SCL/LSN combinations for scrap that can be sent to the contractor is available in Attachment 1. The scrap shipped may contain various metallic and non-metallic attachments in addition to precious metals.

The related federal contract opportunity is a solicitation from the Defense Logistics Agency for precious metals recovery services. Solicitation number SP451024R1001 seeks proposals for recovering precious metals from DLA Disposition Services' precious metal scrap.
