About this file
This document provides an attachment outlining an alternate methodology for calculating settlement payments under a precious metals recovery contract. The attachment details a formula for converting recovered precious metal quantities such as gold, platinum, silver, and palladium into equivalent quantities of silver based on daily spot prices. It then calculates a total silver quantity by adding the converted amounts to the initial silver recovered directly. The example application of the methodology shows conversion of 252.35 troy ounces of gold, 1.64 troy ounces of platinum, 36.73 troy ounces of palladium, 642.06 troy ounces of silver initially recovered, and 3864.2 pounds of copper first into dollar values using daily prices and then into equivalent quantities of silver totaling 23303.15 troy ounces. The Defense Logistics Agency contracting officer would review the conversion and confirm the settlement amount if agreed upon.
The related federal contract opportunity is solicitation number SP451024R1001 issued by the Defense Logistics Agency to recover precious metals from electronic scrap processed under a precious metals recovery contract.

Attachment 12: Alternate Settlement Calculations
Note: Precious metal prices to be set on Assay completion date using agreed upon Precious Metal and Scrap Copper prices between USG and Precious Metals Contractor. Following methodology shall be used:
Basic Formula:
(Recovered PM Troy Oz.) x (PM $ Price) = ($ Total)
($ Total) / (DLA DS Authorized POC Selected PM $ Price) = (Troy Oz. of DLA DS Authorized POC Selected PM)
Example:
Total metals recovered from processing electronic scrap is as follows:
Gold = 252.35 Troy Oz. Platinum = 1.64 Troy Oz.
Silver = 642.06 Troy Oz. Palladium = 36.73 Troy Oz.
Copper = 3864.20 Pounds
DLA DS Authorized POC informs Contractor to convert all values into silver.
(Prices on Jan. 31 2018 – Date from Assay Report) Au 252.35 t/o x $1345.05 = $339,423.37 / $ 17.235 = 19693.84 t/o Ag
Pd 36.73 t/o x $1056.00 = $ 38,786.88 / $ 17.235 = 2250.47 t/o Ag Pt 1.64 t/o x $1006.00 = $ 1,649.84 / $ 17.235 = 95.73 t/o Ag
Cu 3864.20 lbs. x $ 2.77 = $ 10,703.83 / $ 17.235 = 621.05 t/o Ag
Add all of the Silver troy ounces to get total.
Ag (contained) - 642.06 Au conversion - 19693.84 Pd conversion - 2250.47
Pt conversion - 95.73 Cu conversion - 621.05
Ag Total = 23303.15 t/o
DLA DS Authorized POC will review conversion and if agreed will issue the settlement letter.
