1.3 DEFINITIONS
A. Standard-Pressure Sprinkler Piping: Dry-pipe sprinkler system piping designed to operate at working pressure 175 psig maximum.
B. Dry-Pipe Sprinkler System: Automatic sprinklers are attached to piping containing compressed nitrogen gas. Opening of sprinklers releases compressed nitrogen gas and permits water pressure to open dry-pipe valve. Water then flows into piping and discharges from sprinklers that are open.
C. CO: Contracting Officer.
D. FM: FM Global (Factory Mutual)

1.4 SYSTEM DESCRIPTIONS
A. The design shall conform to NFPA 13 and the requirements specified herein. The design, equipment, materials, installation, workmanship, examination, inspection and testing shall be in strict accordance with NFPA 13, except as modified herein.
B. The system shall include all materials, accessories, and equipment inside and outside the building to provide a system complete and ready for use.
C. Design and provide each system giving full consideration to blind spaces, piping, electrical equipment, duct work and other construction and equipment in accordance with detailed drawings to be submitted for approval.
D. Equipment for fire protection service shall be UL listed or FM approved for use in wet pipe sprinkler systems.
E. In the NFPA publications referred to herein, the advisory provisions shall be considered mandatory, as though the word "shall" had been substituted for "should," wherever it appears.
1.5 PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS
A. Standard-Pressure Piping System Component: Listed for 175-psig minimum working pressure.
B. Clearance From Electrical Equipment: Piping and automatic sprinklers are prohibited directly over:
1. Electrical panels.
C. If installing pipe over electrical equipment is unavoidable, provide drip pans under piping to protect electrical equipment.
D. Location of Sprinkler Heads: Heads in relation to the ceiling and the spacing of sprinkler heads shall not exceed their listed area of coverage for the hazard. Uniformly space sprinklers on the branch piping. Locate sprinkler heads in a consistent pattern with ceiling grid, lights, and supply air diffusers. Sprinklers located in electrical equipment or telecom rooms shall be of concealed type or be provided with guards.
E. Hydraulic Calculations: Submit name of hydraulic program and comply with the following requirements:

1. Sprinkler System Margin of Safety for Available Water Flow and Pressure: 10 percent, including losses through water-service piping, valves, and backflow preventers. Water supply shall be corrected for low gradient.
2. Sprinkler Occupancy Hazard Classifications: Per NFPA 13 and as identified on the drawings.
3. Minimum Density for Automatic-Sprinkler Piping Design:
a. Light-Hazard Occupancy: 0.10 gpm over 1950-sq. ft. area or the area contained within one building’s floor area.
b. Ordinary-Hazard, Group 1 Occupancy: 0.15 gpm over 1950-sq. ft. area or the area contained within one building’s floor area.
4. Maximum Protection Area per Sprinkler: Light Hazard (225 sq. ft.), Ordinary Hazard
(130 sq. ft.)
5. Total Combined Hose-Stream Demand Requirement: According to NFPA 13 unless otherwise indicated:
a. Light-Hazard Occupancies: 100 gpm for 30 minutes.
b. Ordinary-Hazard Occupancies: 250 gpm for 60 to 90 minutes.
6. Sprinkler Discharge Area: The sprinkler discharge area shall be the hydraulically most remote areas as defined in NFPA 13.
7. Minimum operating pressure of any sprinkler shall be according to NFPA 13 and appropriate UL listing or FM approval.
F. Dry-Pipe Systems:
1. For each dry-pipe sprinkler system, provide a nitrogen generation system for fail safe release of the system and to supervise the integrity of the piping under normal power conditions. When supervisory pressure in each system is reduced, a “low air” supervisory alarm shall be activated.
2. The nitrogen generation system shall provide a minimum of 98% nitrogen purity to the dry-pipe sprinkler systems.
3. The nitrogen purity of the nitrogen generation system shall be monitored and verified via a handheld portable or wall mounted stationary means.
4. Provide autopurge systems on each sprinkler system.
G. Water Supply Information
1. Fire-hydrant flow test shall be performed by the contractor to use for their hydraulic calculations. Contractor shall coordinate with the local water authority to schedule the fire-hydrant flow test.

2. Fire-hydrant test shall be conducted no more than 12 months prior to the working plans submittal. Flow test shall be performed in accordance with NFPA 291 “Recommended
Practice for Fire Flow Testing and Marking of Hydrants.”
3. Available fire-hydrant flow test records indicate the following conditions:

H. Sprinkler system design shall be approved by AHJ.
1.6 SUBMITTALS
A. Partial submittals will not be acceptable. Any installation work performed prior to the approval of the submittal shall be at the Contractor’s own risk.
B. Before any work is commenced, submit manufacturer's data (with listing or approval), system calculations, water supply data, and complete sets of working drawings.
C. Manufacturers' Data: Annotate descriptive data to show the specific model, type and size of each item the Contractor proposes to furnish. Include data for proper installation of each system including:
1. Pipe, fittings, and mechanical couplings
2. Gate, butterfly and check valves
3. Backflow Preventer
4. Globe valves
5. Sprinkler heads
6. Pipe hangers and supports
7. Pressure and water flow switches
8. Tamper switches
9. Inspector's test station
10. Ball drip
11. Lubricating compound/PTFE tape.
12. Signs
13. Drip pans
14. Gauges
15. All other associated equipment

17. Operating instructions (to be posted adjacent to each system)
D. Shop Drawings: Prepare working drawings on sheets not smaller than 24 in by 36 in, in accordance with the requirements for "Working Plans" as specified in NFPA 13. A scaled site plan, with the location and elevation of the water flow test, shall be provided on the drawings.
The drawings shall not be smaller than 24 in by 36 inch with title block similar to full size contract documents. The drawings shall be prepared with CAD based software.
1. Contractor shall prepare and submit a minimum of four (4) complete sets of detailed shop drawings indicating the proposed layout of equipment, mains, risers, hangers, pipes and sprinklers.
2. Drawings shall be drawn to scale, not less than 1/8-inch equals 1-foot, on sheets not smaller than 24 inches x 36 inches, in accordance with all requirements for "Working
Drawings (Plans)" as specified in NFPA 13.
3. Drawings shall comply with the “Plans and Calculations” chapter of NFPA 13 and contain all applicable information found therein.
4. Drawings shall be stamped/sealed by a registered fire protection engineer, or a certified
NICET Level III or IV Automatic Sprinkler Layout Technician.
5. Drawings shall show hydraulic reference points with hydraulically most remote areas clearly shown, and proof by example that area shown is in fact the hydraulically most remote.
E. Design Data:
1. Contractor shall submit for approval to the CO/COR calculations, and other information for the dry pipe sprinkler system, stamped/sealed and signed by professional fire protection engineer prior to beginning any work. Allow 10 working days for drawing plans to be reviewed and for recommendations to be made.
F. Product Data
1. Submit two (2) hard-copies and one (1) electronic complete sets of descriptive data
(manufacturer’s cut sheets) marked-up to show the specific model, type and size of each item proposed. Full descriptive data shall be submitted for all components essential to proper installation, including, but not limited to: sprinklers, pipe, fittings, gate valves, butterfly valves, check valves, backflow devices, hangers, flow switches, tamper switches, materials and other associated equipment.
2. Prepare and submit a minimum of two (2) hard-copies and one (1) electronic complete sets of hydraulic calculations.
G. Project Record Documents
1. Contractor shall prepare, on a daily basis, red-lined shop drawings to record as- built conditions. Submit completed red-line drawings to the CO/COR and the AHJ at project completion.
2. Prepare and submit two (2) hard-copies and one (1) electronic sets of record shop drawings, product data, and hydraulic calculations reflecting final as-built conditions at completion of project, but before final acceptance of the work. These documents shall be prepared in accordance with the requirements for the initial submittal. Freehand sketches or mark-up documents are not acceptable. Record drawings shall be on reproducible sepia.
H. As-Built (Record) Working Drawings: Provide and submit detailed “As-Built Drawings”. The drawings shall show the system as installed, including all deviations from both the project drawings and the approved shop drawings. The drawings shall also include all information as

required by NFPA 13. Submit these drawings within two weeks after final acceptance test of the system.
1. Furnish two (2) hard-copies and one (1) electronic set of instruction manuals containing complete operation and maintenance instructions for the specific make and model of check valves, control valves, waterflow switches, valve supervisory switches, control panels, and other components supplied. Include maintenance data relative to components of the system, servicing requirements, inspection data, replacement part numbers and availability, and location and numbers of the service depot.
I. Operation and Maintenance Manuals: Furnish four (4) instruction manuals containing complete operation and maintenance instructions for the specific make and model of all check valves, water flow and tamper switches, backflow preventers, and other trim furnished. Serial numbers and ordering information shall be provided. Place one copy of each instruction manual in a flexible, oil-resistant protective binder and mount in an accessible location and in sight of each control valve. Furnish three additional copies of each instruction manual.
J. Contractor’s Material and Test Certificates
1. Upon completion of required testing the contractor shall submit completed and signed material and test certificates for aboveground, underground piping and backflow prevention devices certifying system meets or exceeds the specified requirements. The
Contractor shall use the following National Park Service forms:
a. Aboveground Piping Acceptance Test Form (Form AS-5)
b. Underground Piping Acceptance Test Form (Form AS-4)
c. Backflow Prevention Assembly Test Form (Form BF-1)
d. Fire Pump Acceptance Form (Form FP)
e. Fire Hydrant Acceptance & Flow Test Form (Form FH-1)
f. Fire Alarm Record of Completion and Acceptance Form (FA-2)
K. Final Acceptance Test
1. Contractor shall propose procedures for final acceptance test, no later than ten (10) days prior to the proposed start of the tests. Contractor shall submit final acceptance test procedures at the same time proposed final acceptance test date and time are submitted.
Notification shall include a copy of the Contractor’s Material and Test Certificates. The
AHJ or designee shall witness final acceptance testing.
1.7 QUALITY ASSURANCE
A. Submittal Requirements:
1. Shop Drawings: Shop drawings shall be prepared and signed by persons with at least one of the following qualifications:
a. NICET Certification Level III minimum sprinkler technician.
b. Registered Fire Protection Engineer.
c. As approved by the AHJ.
2. Installer: The installer shall be at least one of the following qualifications:
a. NICET Level II minimum sprinkler technician.
b. State or municipal certified/licensed sprinkler contractor.
c. As approved by the AHJ.
The installer shall be present (on-site) during any sprinkler system installation work.

B. Welding Qualifications: Qualify procedures and operators according to ASME Boiler and
Pressure Vessel Code.
C. Electrical Components, Devices, and Accessories: Listed and labeled as defined in NFPA 70, by a qualified testing agency, and marked for intended location and application.
D. NFPA Standards: Sprinkler system equipment, specialties, accessories, installation, and testing shall comply with the following:
1. NFPA 13, "Installation of Sprinkler Systems."
2. NFPA 25, “Standard for the Inspection, Testing, and Maintenance of Water-Based Fire
Protection Systems”
3. NFPA 70, “National Electrical Code”
4. NFPA 72, “National Fire Alarm Code”
5. NFPA 291, “Fire Flow Testing and Marking of Hydrants”
E. Service Organization: The Contractor shall furnish, to the CO, evidence that there is an experienced and effective service organization, which carries a stock of repair parts for the system in order to readily effect repairs throughout the warranty period. Service organization shall respond within 4 hours of notification from the CO. Should the Contractor fail to comply with the service requirements of this section, the CO will then have the option to make the necessary repairs and back charge the Contractor without any loss of warranty or guarantee as provided by the contract documents.
1.8 DELIVERY STORAGE AND HANDLING
A. Deliver products to project site in original, unopened packages with intact and legible manufacturers’ labels identifying product and manufacturer, date of manufacture, and shelf life if applicable.
B. Store materials inside, under cover, above ground, and kept dry and protected from physical damage until ready for use. Remove from site and discard wet or damaged materials.
C. Automatic sprinklers must be kept in original packaging until they are installed. Loose carrying or storage is not permitted. Loose sprinklers shall be discarded immediately and replaced at
Contractor’s expense.
1.9 COORDINATION
A. Coordinate sprinkler layout with reflected ceiling plan and all ceiling mounted equipment, including diffusers, lights, security cameras, fire alarm devices, exit signs, and other devices.
B. Coordinate major equipment and piping layouts with other trades to avoid obstructions and excessive changes in direction for piping.
C. Sprinklers shall be located in the center of ceiling tile or center of half tile in all acoustical tile drop ceilings.

1.10 EXTRA MATERIALS
A. Furnish extra materials that match products installed and that are packaged with protective covering for storage and identified with labels describing contents.
1. Sprinkler Cabinets: Finished, wall-mounted, steel cabinet with hinged cover, and with space for minimum of six spare sprinklers plus sprinkler wrench. Include number of sprinklers required by NFPA 13 and sprinkler wrench. Include separate cabinet with sprinklers and wrench for each type of sprinkler used on Project.
B. Spare Parts Schedule
1. Contactor shall prepare and electronically submit Spare Parts Schedule for each different item of material and equipment specified. Data shall include:
a. Complete list of parts and supplies, with current unit prices and source of supply;
b. List of parts recommended by the manufacturer to be replaced periodically;
c. List of special tools and test equipment required for maintenance and testing of products supplied.
1.11 WARRANTY
A. The Contractor shall guarantee labor, materials, and equipment provided under this contract against defects for a period of one year after the date of final acceptance of this work by the
Owner.
B. Final acceptance includes, but is not limited to, the receipt and Owner approval of as-built drawings and operation and maintenance manuals.
PART 2 - PRODUCTS
2.1 GENERAL
A. All products shall be UL listed or FM approved for Fire Protection Service unless specifically allowed otherwise by this specification.
2.2 PIPING MATERIALS
A. Comply with requirements in "Piping Schedule" Article for applications of pipe, tube, and fitting materials, and for joining methods for specific services, service locations, and pipe sizes.
2.3 STEEL PIPE AND FITTINGS
A. Schedule 40, Black Steel Pipe: ASTM A 53/A 53M, Type E, Grade B. Pipe ends may be factory or field formed to match joining method.
B. Black Steel Pipe Nipples: ASTM A 733, made of ASTM A 53/A 53M, standard-weight, seamless steel pipe with threaded ends.

a. Gaskets utilized for dry pipe systems shall be of silicon compound and approved for dry fire protection systems. These gaskets shall be the flush type that fills the entire cavity between the fitting and the pipe.

A. Pipe-Flange Gasket Materials: AWWA C110, rubber, flat face, 1/8 inch thick or ASME B16.21, nonmetallic and asbestos free.

2. Class 250, Cast-Iron Flanges and Class 300, Steel Raised-Face Flanges: Ring-type gaskets.

3. Include shutoff valves to permit servicing without shutting down sprinkler piping, bypass valve for quick filling, pressure regulator or switch to maintain pressure, strainer, pressure ratings with 96.5 kPa (14 psig) to 413.68 (60 psig) adjustable range, and 12 bar
(175-psig) outlet pressure.
2.9 NITROGEN GENERATION SYSTEMS FOR DRY-PIPE SPRINKLER SYSTEMS
A. All products shall be FM approved or UL 508A listed.
B. All products shall be identified as a system and delivered from a single manufacturer.
C. Each Nitrogen Generation System cabinet shall be wall mount as required or permitted by manufacturer. Mount per manufacturer’s requirements.
D. Each Nitrogen Generation System shall either have an integrated, oil-less air compressor located within the Nitrogen Generation System's cabinet or a separate oil-bathed air compressor package mounted on vibration isolating mounts in the same room of the nitrogen generator cabinet, capable of both providing clean, dry, oil free compressed feed air to the nitrogen generation system and achieving the 30-minute fill per NFPA 13.
E. System piping shall be provided a by-pass of the nitrogen generator to allow air compressor to supply dry pipe systems.
F. System shall be provided with an integral air bypass tamper alarm such that a supervisory alarm condition shall be indicated on the nitrogen generator controller with the system is in the by-pass mode.
G. The air compressor associated with the nitrogen generation system shall be provided with an aftercooler, automatic tank drain, coalescing filter (to remove residual oil) and a refrigerated air dryer package.
H. Electrical shall be provided for the air compressor per the manufacturer's specifications (i.e.
wire size, voltage and proper breaker).
I. The Nitrogen Generation System shall be powered by 120VAC requiring no greater than a 20
AMP dedicated circuit.
J. For each Nitrogen Generation System, the manufacturer shall provide a single nitrogen storage tank sized as required by the manufacturer.
K. The Nitrogen Storage Tank shall be DOT or ASME rated for 150 PSI and shall be provided with ASME rated 100 PSI Safety Relief valve, on/off valve and fittings as required by the manufacturer.
L. The Nitrogen Generation System and nitrogen storage tank shall be connected to the sprinkler system utilizing Schedule 40 galvanized, black steel pipe or approved flex hosing, rated at 175
PSI.

M. Pipe connection size shall be per manufacturer based on distance between nitrogen generator and system connection.
N. Automatic Purge Vent/Valve:
1. Vents oxygen during system nitrogen fill.
2. Automatically closes when 98 percent minimum nitrogen has been reached.
3. Sized to allow correct purge rate per manufacturer's written instructions and with 14 days.
4. Provide one venting device for each dry/pre-action sprinkler system zone.
5. Include a connection port for a portable nitrogen purity sensor or a nitrogen purity manifold.
O. Supervisory Gas Monitoring
1. Furnish two portable handheld battery operated nitrogen purity sensors capable of being manually connected to the outlet of the auto purge system for periodic inspections in order to obtain a quick purity reading of the nitrogen content within any particular system or zone.
2.10 SPRINKLER SPECIALTY PIPE FITTINGS
A. General Requirements for Dry-Pipe-System Fittings: UL listed for dry-pipe service.
B. Branch Outlet Fittings:
1. Standard: UL 213.
2. Pressure Rating: 175 psig minimum.
3. Body Material: Ductile-iron housing with EPDM seals and bolts and nuts.
4. Type: Welded fitting, grooved-tee and -cross fittings. Mechanical-tee (saddle-tee) fittings are not permitted.
5. Size: Of dimension to fit onto sprinkler main and with outlet connections as required to match connected branch piping.

2.11 SPRINKLERS
A. General Requirements:

B. Automatic Sprinklers with Heat-Responsive Element:
1. Unless noted otherwise, provide quick response sprinklers throughout all areas.
2. Characteristics: Nominal 1/2-inch orifice with Discharge Coefficient K of 5.6, and for
"Ordinary" temperature classification rating unless otherwise indicated or required by application.
3. Attic sprinklers shall be “intermediate” temperature.

2.18 SPRINKLER CABINET
A. Provide metal cabinet(s) as required containing a stock of spare sprinkler heads of all types and ratings installed as well as any special tools required for removal or replacement of the heads.
The number of spare sprinklers shall conform to NFPA 13. The cabinet shall be located within the Sprinkler Valve Room.
PART 3 - EXECUTION
3.1 PREPARATION
A. Perform fire-hydrant flow test according to NFPA 13 and NFPA 291. Use results for system design calculations required in "Quality Assurance" Article. Coordinate with local municipal water authority to obtain or conduct water flow test.
B. Report test results promptly and in writing.
3.2 PIPING INSTALLATION
A. Locations and Arrangements: Drawing plans, schematics, and diagrams indicate general location and arrangement of piping. Install piping as indicated, as far as practical.
1. Deviations from approved working plans for piping require written approval from COR.
File written approval with COR before deviating from approved working plans.
B. Piping Standard: Comply with requirements in NFPA 13 for installation of sprinkler piping.
C. Use listed fittings to make changes in direction, branch takeoffs from mains, and reductions in pipe sizes.
D. Install unions adjacent to each valve in pipes NPS 2 and smaller.
E. Install flanges, flange adapters, or couplings for grooved-end piping on valves, apparatus, and equipment having NPS 2-1/2 and larger end connections.
F. Install "Inspector's Test Connections" in sprinkler system piping, complete with shutoff valve, and sized and located according to NFPA 13.
G. Install sprinkler piping with drains for complete system drainage.
H. Install sprinkler control valves, test assemblies, and drain risers adjacent to standpipes when sprinkler piping is connected to standpipes.
I. Install alarm devices in piping systems.

J. Install hangers and supports for sprinkler system piping according to NFPA 13. Comply with requirements in NFPA 13 for hanger materials.

N. Pressurize and check dry-pipe sprinkler system piping and nitrogen-pressure maintenance devices and/or nitrogen compressors.
3.3 JOINT CONSTRUCTION
A. Install couplings, flanges, flanged fittings, unions, nipples, and transition and special fittings that have finish and pressure ratings same as or higher than system's pressure rating for aboveground applications unless otherwise indicated.
B. Install unions adjacent to each valve in pipes NPS 2 and smaller.
C. Install flanges, flange adapters, or couplings for grooved-end piping on valves, apparatus, and equipment having NPS 2-1/2 and larger end connections.
D. Ream ends of pipes and tubes and remove burrs. Bevel plain ends of steel pipe.
E. Remove scale, slag, dirt, and debris from inside and outside of pipes, tubes, and fittings before assembly.
F. Threaded Joints: Thread pipe with tapered pipe threads according to ASME B1.20.1. Cut threads full and clean using sharp dies. Ream threaded pipe ends to remove burrs and restore full ID. Join pipe fittings and valves as follows:
1. Apply appropriate tape or thread compound to external pipe threads.
2. Damaged Threads: Do not use pipe or pipe fittings with threads that are corroded or damaged.
G. Steel-Piping, Cut-Grooved Joints: Cut square-edge groove in end of pipe according to
AWWA C606. Assemble coupling with housing, gasket, lubricant, and bolts. Join steel pipe and grooved-end fittings according to AWWA C606 for steel-pipe joints.
H. Dissimilar-Material Piping Joints: Make joints using adapters compatible with materials of both piping systems.
3.4 VALVE AND SPECIALTIES INSTALLATION
A. Install listed fire-protection valves, trim and drain valves, specialty valves and trim, controls, and specialties according to NFPA 13.

B. Install listed fire-protection shutoff valves supervised open, located to control sources of water supply except from fire-department connections. Install permanent identification signs indicating portion of system controlled by each valve.
C. Install check valve in each water-supply connection. Install backflow preventers instead of check valves in potable-water-supply sources.
D. Specialty Valves:
E. Specialty Valves:
1. Install valves in vertical position for proper direction of flow, in main supply to system.
2. Install dry-pipe valves with trim sets for nitrogen supply, drain, priming level, alarm connections, ball drip valves, pressure gages, priming chamber attachment, and fill-line attachment.
a. Install nitrogen-pressure maintenance device with shutoff valves to permit servicing without shutting down sprinkler system; bypass valve for quick system filling; pressure regulator or switch to maintain system pressure; strainer; pressure ratings with 14- to 60-psig adjustable range; and 175-psig maximum inlet pressure.
3.5 NITROGEN-GENERATION, CORROSION-MITIGATION SYSTEM
A. Install in accordance with manufacturer's written installation instructions.
B. Locate purge vent/valve in accordance with manufacturer's written installation instructions.
3.6 SPRINKLER INSTALLATION
A. Install sprinklers in suspended ceilings in center of narrow dimension of acoustical ceiling panels.
B. Install dry-type pendent sprinklers on return bends or upright sprinklers as indicated on the drawings.
3.7 IDENTIFICATION
A. Securely attach identification signs to control valves, drain valves, and test valves. Locate hydraulic placard information signs at each sectional control valve where there is a water flow switch. Where more than one sprinkler zone is provided, signs shall indicate the specific zone served by the valve.
B. Pipe-Label Locations: Locate pipe labels where piping is exposed or above accessible ceilings in finished spaces; machine rooms; accessible maintenance spaces such as shafts, tunnels, and plenums; and exterior exposed locations as follows:
1. Near each valve and control device.
2. Near each branch connection excluding short takeoffs. Where flow pattern is not obvious, mark each pipe at branch.
3. Near penetrations and on both sides of walls, floors, ceilings, and inaccessible enclosures.

4. At access doors, manholes, and similar access points that permit a view of concealed piping.
5. Near major equipment items and other points of origination and termination.
6. Spaced at maximum intervals of 50 feet along each run. Reduce intervals to 25 feet in areas of congested piping and equipment.
7. On piping above removable acoustical ceilings. Omit intermediately spaced labels.
3.8 FIRESTOPPING AND FIREPROOFING
A. Firestop all holes for piping, or other penetrations, wh ich pass through floor slabs, fire-rated walls, partitions with fire-rated doors, vertical service shafts, or any fire-rated assemblies in accordance with Division 7 Section Firestopping. Existing holes through which new piping for this project passes shall be totally firestopped in a manner that restores the fire protection rating of the penetrated wall, floor, ceiling, or other structure.
B. Where structural fireproofing is disturbed, damaged, or destroyed as a result of the sprinkler system installation, the contractor shall be responsible for restoring the firep r o o f i n g to the required fire resistance rating in an approved manner. This restoration shall be done in accordance with the UL listing or FM approval of the fireproofing materials, requirements of the building, fire, and life safety codes in effect for the project, and in accordance with
Division 7 Section Applied Fireproofing.
3.9 ESCUTCHEON INSTALLATION
A. Install escutcheons for piping penetrations of walls, ceilings, and finished floors.
B. Install escutcheons with ID to closely fit around pipe, tube, and insulation of piping and with
OD that completely covers opening.
3.10 SLEEVE INSTALLATION
A. Install sleeves for piping passing through penetrations in floors, partitions, roofs, and walls.
1. In penetration through fire rated assemblies, sleeves shall only be used if specifically permitted in the listed through-penetration firestop system being utilized.
B. For sleeves that will have sleeve-seal system installed, select sleeves of size large enough to provide1-inch annular clear space between piping and concrete slabs and walls.
1. Sleeves are not required for core-drilled holes.
C. Install sleeves in concrete floors, concrete roof slabs, and concrete walls as new slabs and walls are constructed.
1. Cut sleeves to length for mounting flush with both surfaces.
Exception: Extend sleeves installed in floors of mechanical equipment areas or other wet areas 2 inches above finished floor level.
2. Using grout, seal the space outside of sleeves in slabs and walls without sleeve-seal system.
D. Install sleeves for pipes passing through interior partitions

1. Cut sleeves to length for mounting flush with both surfaces.
2. Install sleeves that are large enough to provide 1/4-inch annular clear space between sleeve and pipe or pipe insulation.
3. Seal annular space between sleeve and piping or piping insulation; use joint sealants appropriate for size, depth, and location of joint. Comply with requirements for sealants specified in Section 079200 "Joint Sealants."
E. Fire-Barrier Penetrations: Maintain indicated fire rating of walls, partitions, ceilings, and floors at pipe penetrations. Through penetrations shall comply with specification section 78400
"Through-Penetration Firestop Systems."
1. In penetration through fire rated assemblies, sleeves shall only be used if specifically permitted in the listed through-penetration firestop system being utilized.
3.11 FIELD QUALITY CONTROL
A. Perform tests and inspections.
B. Tests and Inspections:
1. Hydrostatically test wet-pipe sprinkler system, as required by NFPA 13, in the presence of the Owner or their designated representative. The Contractor and an authorized representative from each supplier of equipment shall be in attendance at the preliminary test. Test waterflow alarms, tamper switches, and all other devices for smooth and correct operation. Test the waterflow alarms by flowing water through the inspector's test connection. When tests are completed and corrections made, submit signed and dated
“Contractor’s Material and Test Certificates” in accordance with NFPA 13, with a request for final inspection and tests.
2. Test and adjust controls and safeties. Replace damaged and malfunctioning controls and equipment.
3. Flush, test, and inspect sprinkler systems according to NFPA 13, "Systems Acceptance"
Chapter.
4. Energize circuits to electrical equipment and devices.
