About this file
This is a Data Item Description (DID) document specifying the requirements for Satellite Modeling Data (SMD) deliverables under contract number 693KA8-25-R-00006 for the Alaskan Satellite Space Segment program. The document outlines detailed technical requirements for satellite characteristics documentation that must be provided by the contractor to support FAA telecommunications.
The contractor must deliver the SMD to the Contracting Officer and COR within 5 DACA in either MS Office 365 or PDF format. The required data includes comprehensive satellite specifications such as official names, orbital locations, ephemeris data, transponder frequency plans, beacon/telemetry carrier information, noise temperature measurements, output power specifications, antenna gain patterns, and various technical parameters for both primary and redundant configurations. The document falls under the oversight of the FAA Telecommunications Engineering Team (AJW-1531) and is associated with CLINs 01_0001AA and 01_0001AB.

CDRL SMD-02
10. Preparation Instructions FORMAT: The information required for the SMD may be prepared in Contractor format in accordance with the following content instructions.
CONTENTS: The SMD must include, but is not limited to, the following for each satellite:
1. Satellite Modeling Data.
a) Official satellite name
b) Satellite orbital location (deg E/deg W)
c) Satellite ephemeris data on a weekly basis or access to ephemeris data on an as needed bases.
d) Spacecraft platform bias (applies to all non-steerable antennas)
e) Transponder frequency plan for the entire satellite (including transponder names, frequencies and polarization)
f) Beacon/telemetry carrier frequency plan (including beacon names, frequencies and polarization)
g) Beacon/telemetry carrier EIRP towards Anchorage, AK
h) Receive system noise temperature for each transponder for primary configuration. Provide transponder-specific value, rather than nominal value.
i) Saturated output power at transmit antenna flange for each transponder for primary configuration.
j) Transponder Beam-Peak Saturation Flux Density (Beam-Peak SFD) [dBW/m2] for each gain step for primary configuration in Fixed Gain Mode (FGM).
k) Receive system noise temperature for each transponder for each redundant configuration.
l) Saturated output power at transmit antenna flange for each transponder for each redundant configuration.
m) Transponder Beam-Peak Saturation Flux Density (Beam-Peak SFD) [dBW/m2] for each gain step for each redundant configuration in Fixed Gain Mode (FGM).
n) Normalized transponder filter (IMUX/OMUX) characteristics-frequency vs. gain referenced to 0dB for each OMUX.
o) Amplifier non-linear single-carrier transfer characteristics for each amplifier. If linearizer is implemented, then the characteristics across the TWTA and linearizer. Power transfer characteristics specified in terms of IBO vs. OBO or Pin vs. Pout. Phase-shift characteristics specified in terms of IBO
vs. phase-shift in degrees, or AM/PM characteristics.
p) Antenna copol gain pattern files for each uplink antenna, measured at the center frequency of each transponder – in satellite-centric coordinates to cover the visible earth. Provide in electronic data form as a grid in satellite-centric coordinates (e.g. in Satsoft, TICRA, etc. format) for each transponder.
q) Antenna copol gain pattern files for each uplink antenna, measured at the center frequency of each transponder – in satellite-centric coordinates to cover the visible earth. Provide in electronic data form as a grid in satellite-centric coordinates (e.g. in Satsoft, TICRA, etc. format) for each transponder.
r) Satellite antenna pointing or bias-deployment offset vs. what the orientation was during measurement.
