QUESTION & ANSWERS 6/5/18
RESPONSE TO BIDDER QUESTIONS:
1. REFERENCE: Drawing T-002 QUESTION: General note 42 states “Contractor shall provide surge protection devices(s) for all OSP copper cabling for controls, systems and communications. Coordinate exact requirements with the government.” Please provide part numbers and cables affected by this note.
ANSWER: The note is a general note, typically used in T Sheets with communication cabling to be installed by a contractor where copper cabling is possibly included. There are only two copper cables identified in the T Sheets for the contractor to provide, KGCS-20 and KGCS-21. Because these are armored cables where the shield cabling is required to be bonded to the grounding system at both ends of the cable termination, they do not require surge protection devices. This response is specific to the question and does not remove requirements for surge protection devices wherever else identified as required within the drawings or specification for electrical circuits or equipment.
1. REFERENCE: 40 29 99, Vacuum Jacketed Piping, Subpart 3.5 & Amendment 4, C2 Contract Drawings, (b), 10 QUESTION: Amendment 4, C2 Contract Drawings, (b), 10 deleted all coating for Non-VJ piping which are stainless steel construction. Are coatings required for the VJ Piping per 40 29 99, Sub Part 3.5 of the same stainless steel construction required?
ANSWER: For clarification, Item (b) 10. was in the original version of Solicitation 80KSC018R0016 SF1442 Continuation Clause C.2 and was not new content in Amendment 4. In reference to Specification 79K40362 Section 40 29 99 Subpart 3.5, yes, the exposed surface would be the outer jacket of the vacuum-jacketed (VJ) piping and the coating requirement remains as specified.
