About this file
This document contains machinery space heating and cooling load calculations for a 95-foot towboat. The calculations were performed according to ASHRAE standards using outdoor design conditions of 99°F DB and 76°F WB for cooling, and 15°F for heating. Indoor conditions were set at 120°F for cooling and 50°F for heating. Calculations were provided for the engine room, tank room, pump room, storage room, and other machinery spaces. Equipment loads and ventilation requirements were calculated for each space based on rated equipment capacities and specified air change rates. Heating and sensible and latent cooling loads were tabulated along with required supply and exhaust air flows.

DESCRIPTION

GENERAL NOTES:
Per ASHRAE, the following design conditions were used:
Outdoor Cooling - 99°F D.B. / 76°F W.B.
Outdoor Heating - 15°F
Indoor Cooling - 120°F Indoor Heating - 50°F
Rate of Change for Engine Room - 2 air changes per minute Rate of Change for Tank Room - 3 minutes per air change Rate of Change for Pump Room - 3 minutes per air change
Note - For storage room, assume that the ventilation and heating required will be half that of the tank room. No calculation sheet is included. The storage room will be outfitted with an exhaust fan only, no suppy fan will be provided.
Space heating sized to maintain 50°F while only running fans at 50% rating (not full rated CFM). It is unlikely that the fans will need to be operated at full rated CFM during winter conditions. Additionally, it is assumed that equipment and lighting is operational during the winter so the heat generated by that equipment is subtracted from the required heating load.
All glass windows and door windows are assumed to be single pane.
Insulation values are based on SNAME T&R 4-7.
