About this file
This document is an additional response to late questions/RFI/clarifications for Solicitation Number 36C26326B0007, Project Number 636A6-22-104 to Replace Boiler Plant Brine Tank. The document addresses two key contractor questions regarding the project's technical specifications.
The first question concerns fire sprinkler system installation, with the government providing detailed guidance on phasing, system connections, and installation requirements. Specifically, the new fire suppression system must be installed, tested, and activated in Phase 3, with the existing system remaining active throughout Phases 1-3, with a brief impairment during the cutover. The second question clarifies that no blast doors are required for the project, despite an initial suggestion in the statement of work. The response emphasizes that contractors must develop their own drawings and calculations based on the project specifications.

Additional Responses to Late Questions/RFI/Clarifications
Question: There is no way to isolate the existing fire sprinkler main and pipe in the areas of construction as it feeds other parts of the plants fire protection. It also states to run new piping next to the existing pipe but there is no room to do that with everything packed tight. I would recommend the pipe is replaced piece per piece in its current location so the systems can be drained and filled every day. How would you like me to proceed with quoting this work?
Answer: Please proceed following the requirements of paragraph 1.17.L of Specification 01 35 26 and Construction Phasing General Notes notes 5 and 6 on Sheet GC111 and Phasing note 3 on Sheet GC111, the fire suppression system within the limits of construction must be installed, tested, and activated prior to removing the existing system, all in Phase 3. As the new work is reliant upon connections to existing piping, it is anticipated the new work will be installed adjacent to the existing fire suppression system, the existing system will remain active throughout Phases 1, 2, and 3 with the exception of a brief impairment during Phase 3 to cut over the existing water supply piping to the new fire suppression system, and then the fire suppression system will remain active during Phase 4, 5, and 6. Do not consider “adjacent to” to mean “next to” and know that the new fire sprinkler system layout in the limits of construction is not limited to the layout indicated in detail 2 on sheet FX101. The contractor’s drawings and calculations, items 1.4.A.2 and 1.4.A.4 of Specification 21 13 13, must be developed based on the contractor’s design in accordance with paragraphs 1.1.A and 1.3.A of Specification 21 13 13.
Question: Could you clarify if the door needs to be a blast door? The specification doesn’t mention anything about the door to be blast door but the statement of work on page 1 suggests being.
Answer: No blast doors are required.
