o Core-drill a hole through the floor slab at the Northeast corner of the building interior.

o Excavate the existing water feed pipe and re-route the pipe to extend under the foundation and up through the core-hole in the slab.

o Provide a drain to the exterior if the new fire sprinkler system requires a drain.

The drain can empty out to grade.

o The new fire sprinkler equipment can be located near the Northeast corner of the building interior where the relocated water feed is located.

o Repair any paved surfaces and concrete slabs and foundations that are removed to facilitate the installation of the pipe and drain.

2.16 ESTIMATORS CHECKLIST

a) Remove and dispose of existing, unused plumbing above grade.

b) Excavate around existing water feed and under existing floor slab.

2.17. Reroute the existing natural gas piping that passes through Building 115 and feeds into adjacent Building 46.

• The contractor will be allowed to select the pipe routing that he deems most economical to install however, the suggested re-routing described below appears to be the best choice. To the best of the VA’s knowledge, the existing underground gas line runs from the area North of the building and turns up into the building at the Southeast corner of the building as described below. It is believed that the underground gas line does not continue any farther South after it branches off into building 115.

o The existing underground pipe extends vertically above grade at the exterior

Southeast corner of the building, turns horizontal and passes through the East exterior wall into the building, runs along the interior face of the South wall, exits the West end of the building, and extends into Building 46.

o The apparent best re-route option is to run the pipe underground from the

Southeast corner of Building 115, along the South side of the Building 115, then enter the pipe into the Northeast side of Building 46. Routing the pipe through the floor slab is preferable however, if an exterior wall entry point away from vehicular traffic is available the contractor may choose that option.

• Remove and dispose of other existing gas piping in the building, if there is any.

• Include all necessary site/civil work: excavation, trenching, pipe jacking, micro tunneling, concrete slab coring, etc. necessary to reroute the gas pipe.

• Repair all paved surfaces, concrete slabs and foundations, building walls and other building components, etc. that are removed or disturbed to facilitate the gas pipe removal and installation.

2.17 ESTIMATORS CHECKLIST

a) New underground gas piping, connections, and accessories.

b) New above ground gas piping, connections, and accessories.

c) Demo and dispose of existing above grade gas piping.

d) Excavation and backfill for underground pipe installation.

e) Selective cutting and coring for new gas pipe installation.

f) Patching and repair for existing pipe removal at bldg. 46.

g) Patching and repair for new pipe installation through bldg. 46.

h) Pavement and concrete patching and repair after installation is complete.

2.18. Provide and install new fire protection systems consisting of - fire alarm, fire detection, fire suppression (fire sprinkler system), and fire extinguishers. Include engineering design for fire alarm, fire detection, and fire sprinkler systems by a qualified licensed engineer.

The design shall include integration of the new alarm and detection systems into the

VA’s existing systems.

• Provide and install new fire protection systems in the building including design / engineering.

• Provide fire extinguishers with cabinets and signage.

• Provide and install new fire alarm and fire detection systems.

• The following fire protection contractors are familiar with the Kerrville Medical Center:
