RFI Questions and Answers 626A4-22-202 AJP-Upgrade Steam Distribution System
Project Location: Alvin C. York VA Medical Center 3400 Lebanon Road, Murfreesboro, TN 37129-1237
1. How are the Thrust blocks supposed to be built? Please provide applicable details.
Refer to 33 63 00 for thrust block requirements. On our drawings, we show the direct buried portion of this piping as delegated design. In this case, we worked with Perma-Pipe who manufactures the pre-insulated direct-buried steam piping called Multi-Therm. We included their detail for thrust blocks on sheet M504. I have attached a snip of the detail below as well.
Based on the piping manufacturer, the details and piping dynamics may be different which is why we opted for this to be delegated design. For this section of direct-buried piping, we call this out as a delegated design in our keynotes on sheet MS201.10. (See following tab.)
2. Can any copper be soldered or does it have to be brazed.
No soldering will be permitted. All copper piping must be brazed.
3. Is Bldg 118 going to need any safety barricades after install?
Provide Osha yellow, metal safety railing with midrail with a 2 foot distance away from the equipment and pit. Utilize mounting sockets on the floor.
4. BLDG 107 (G11) - How do you put a VFD on a skid package?
Retrofit pumps to manufacturer's recommended control panel. Sterlco is the manufacturer.
5. Where is the contractor lay-down area?
The location will be on the north side of the VA property with the other contractors. The COR and Facility Manager will designate the area. The contractor can pull their own wire from the 208V feed with a meter from MTE. Contractor wire must be underground. All subs and primes of the project are to use one lot. No other locations can be used as a laydown area. If an existing sub is utilized, they will have to move their connex to this area.
6. Steam Trap BOD calls for SPIRAX B1H-125. This has a cast body. This contradicts specs that say "steel" bodies. What do we utilize?
Specifications will be followed. Provide steel or stainless-steel trap bodies as specified in section 23 22 13.
7. There is no Geotech, should we expect any rock?
Contractor to anticipate rock at 4' depth. Geotech report from adjacent areas may be provided upon request.
8. Are we expected to GPR?
Contractor is expected to utilize GPR to identify underground utilities prior to digging or trenching.
9. S104 says MH-13: Is this really supposed to be MH 12?
MH-13 and MH-12 are the same. Refer to location on the drawings.
10. Does there need to be a floor drain on the upper mezzeanie in case of a leak?
Yes, Provide a floor drain on the upper level of the mezzanine. Piping will be connected to the sanitary riser from below. Contractor to GPR mezzanine floor prior to drilling through slab.
Coordinate with A/E and COR on floor drain placement.
11. How many overflow alarms are needed on CR-1? What types?
One high-water alarm (probe) and one low water alarm (float) will be required.
