Question 2.041 : Is there branch circuit power available in the existing yard to use for power of the listed transformers?

Response: Your question is unclear. The transformer in question is not in a yard and is indoors.

There are panels in the area from which to bring power.

Question 2.042 : Is there branch circuit power available in the existing yard to use for power of the listed transformers?

The transformer that they are asking to have a fan added to is in an outdoor substation yard. The primary voltage is 15,000 volts and the secondary is 480 volts. If there is no branch circuit available there at the transformer, this would require one or more fused disconnect switches to be powered directly from the secondary lugs of the transformer in the yard (substation), which would be an additional cost. However, if there is already a branch circuit panel out there in the substation yard for miscellaneous lighting and / or equipment, there may be a way to power the added cooling fans already there.

This is the reason for the question.

Response: Your question is unclear. The transformer in question is not in a yard but it is indoors. There are panels in the area from which to bring power.

Question 2.043 : Please verify the type of existing underground piping used for the condenser water to and from the existing cooling towers. The VA Master Specification which were used until 1995 required the installation of ductile iron pipe for the underground condenser water system, see VA Master Spec 15705 for reference. If the existing piping is indeed ductile iron, we would recommend using ductile iron and not installing a mechanical adapter underground to transition the existing ductile iron to steel pipe as this could cause major issues down the road.

Response: The specific composition of the material of the existing underground condenser water piping is unknown. If the existing condenser water piping is other than that specified for installation, then contractor shall provide industry approved connector that will accommodate such dissimilar materials.

Question 2.044 : Drawing 70-S-021 Says Bearing Strata for caissons is Grey Shale. The

Geotech report has a layer of brown limestone on top of a layer of grey limestone. Which strata are the caissons to be socketed in?

Response: The caissons are to be socketed into grey limestone.

Question 2.045 : The two nearest structures in the Geotech report show variances of between 5 to 7 feet in in the depth of the bearing strata. Can we get a target depth of caisson and have an over and under price breakout to allow for variance in the bearing strata depth?

Response: 7 feet in depth for the bearing strata is the target depth. For any significant differences in overall combined pier depth (totaling less than 85% of overall length or greater than 115% of overall length as calculated for the bid) as encountered during construction activities, these will be treated as an unseen site condition and if necessary, become a negotiated change order.

Question 2.046 : There is a conflict between the plan view on 70-S-101 and section C8 on 70-

S-201. The plan view calls out a ½” compressible Expansion Joint between the existing basin and the new basin slab. C8 shows dowels, a cut in keyed joint and waterstop at the interface.

Please clarify what is desired.

Response: The dowels, cut in keyed joint and waterstop at the interface is the desired application.

Question 2.047 : Waterstop is specified at certain keyed joints on drawing 70-S-201. No width or profile is called out in either the drawings or specifications, please clarify.

What pitch is the canopy roof supposed to have?

Response: They are to be ‘1-1/2” KEY W/WATERSTOP’. Equipment canopy roof slope to be

¼” per foot, unless this conflicts with minimum slope requirement per manufacturer of roof panels.

Question 2.048 : Can you provide a connection detail for connecting the W16 x 40 beams to

W12 x 26 main beams between column lines TA and TD?

Response: Refer detail B3 / 70-S-021 for connection detail.

Question 2.049 : Drawing 70-C-00 indicates a drawing 70-C-801. The Drawing is not in the set, nor is it shown on the drawing 70 GI-001 index. Will it be furnished later?

Response: There is no drawing 70-C-801 to be included in this package and it will not be included later. (( As referenced in your question, Drawing 70-C-801 is listed on the CIVIL index (70-C-00) as the Construction Staging Plan.
