About this file
This is a Scope of Work specification document for Volusia County, Florida, detailing wiring devices required for the Branch Jail renovation project scheduled for bid on December 5, 2025. The specification outlines requirements for switches, receptacles, contactors, and time clocks to be installed throughout the facility located at 1300 Red John Drive, Daytona Beach, Florida. Switches must be specification-grade, silent-operation toggle types rated for 20 amps at 120-277 volts AC, available as single-pole single-throw or 3-way configurations from manufacturers including Eaton-Arrow-Hart, Hubbell, or Bryant. Receptacles shall be specification-grade, tamper-resistant duplex types rated for 20 amps at 125 volts, NEMA 5-20 configuration, with isolated grounding and ground fault circuit interrupter options available. Weatherproof receptacles must feature gasket-sealed, key-lockable flip covers, and surge suppression outlets are required in specified locations. The contractor is responsible for providing all final wiring pigtails for air handling units, air conditioning units, water heaters, and other equipment connections. Device plates must match manufacturer specifications with grey devices and stainless steel plates for unfinished and back-of-house spaces, while galvanized plates with rounded edges are required for surface-mounted devices in unfinished areas.
Installation requirements mandate adherence to manufacturer specifications, NECA installation standards, and the National Electrical Code, with coordination among all trades to ensure proper device placement. Standard mounting heights include receptacles at 18 inches above finished floor, telephone outlets at 18 inches, general switches at 42 inches, and countertop receptacles at a maximum of 46 inches, with all heights subject to field verification and ADA accessibility compliance. Devices must be located within 4 inches of door trim for switches and grouped within 4 inches of each other when shown on drawings. The contractor shall coordinate with architectural and interior design drawings to verify proper device locations relative to furniture, cabinetry, and millwork layouts. Back-to-back device boxes are prohibited; all boxes must be located in different stud frame areas with UL-approved fire sealing or putty packs to maintain ratings between walls and floors. Electrically or mechanically held contactors for lighting circuit control must be Square D Type L Class 8903 or equivalent, rated for 100-amp continuous load at 208 volts, with NEMA 1 surface-mounted enclosures. Electronic time clocks with 7-day load control, manual override, and battery backup are specified as Intermatic models ET173C or ET70215CR.
