About this file
This is a Design Criteria and Facility Standards Manual section document from the University of Maryland, College Park, detailing electrical controls standards and specifications. The document, effective July 10, 2009, outlines design requirements and installation standards for automatic transfer switch systems, switchgear gateways, generator monitoring systems, and lighting control systems applicable to UMCP facilities. The standards reference applicable NEMA and ANSI specifications including NEMA ICS 2, ANSI/NEMA ICS 4, and NEMA ICS 6. Required submittals include shop drawings with control device enclosure wiring diagrams and panel layouts, product data for each specified control device, and operating and maintenance instructions for adjustment, repair, cleaning, and lubrication procedures.
The document specifies detailed product requirements for lighting control components including heavy-duty oil-tight control switches and stations rated to Class A150, photocell switches with gasketed feralloy enclosures, magnetic control relays rated Class A300, time-delay relays rated Class A600, and clock timers with 24-hour, 7-day astronomical dials. All enclosures must comply with NEMA Type 1 standards for interior applications and NEMA Type 4 for exterior use, with coil voltages at 120 volts, 60 Hz, single phase. For generator and automatic transfer switch integration, connection to building automation system gateways is required to monitor and transmit data points including battery voltage, oil pressure and temperature, fuel level, engine status, and power metrics. Electrical switchgear gateway integration must provide monitoring data for each breaker including apparent and active energy, breaker status, and protective device settings.
