About this file

This is a Frequently Asked Questions document related to a road milling and paving project for Macon-Bibb County. The project involves milling and asphalt paving operations on multiple roadways, including full-width milling from curb to curb (or road edge to road edge where curbs are absent), with patching operations to address cracked areas up to four inches deep. Work hours are established as 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, or as daylight permits, with provisions for night work on downtown streets upon approval. Key specifications include the use of 12.55mm asphalt at 1.5 inches depth for patching, 9.5mm Type 1 asphalt at 1.25 inches depth for general paving (except Fulton Mill Road at 1.5 inches), and the requirement to complete final repaving within one day of milling operations. Additional work items include clipping and removing shoulder material, adjusting or raising manholes and water valves as determined in the field, and placing advanced warning signs on tripods or post-mounted structures.

The document clarifies that asphalt compaction testing is not required for submission to Macon-Bibb County, a shuttle buggy is permitted but not mandatory during 12.5mm placement, and patching areas must be at least one lane width to accommodate milling equipment. The contractor bears sole responsibility for determining which patch areas require treatment and must remove all clipped shoulder material from the project site. No driveway paving is included in the scope of work, and milling and paving at side road intersections extend only through the curb radius at the side road end. These clarifications establish the technical parameters and operational expectations for contractors bidding on or executing this road maintenance project.
