About this file

This document is a Frequently Asked Questions file related to a road milling and paving contract for Macon-Bibb County. The project involves full-depth milling and asphalt paving operations on county roads, with work hours limited to 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, or as daylight permits. Key project specifications include full-width milling from curb lip to curb lip or road edge to road edge, placement of 12.55mm asphalt at 1.5 inches depth for patching operations, and 9.5mm Type 1 asphalt at 1.25 inches depth for standard road topping (1.5 inches on Fulton Mill Road). The contractor is required to complete final repaving within one day of milling work, remove all clipped shoulder material from the site, and patch areas to a maximum depth of four inches to address cracking. Advance warning signs may be placed on tripods or post-mounted, and shuttle buggies are permitted but not required during 12.5mm placement.

The document clarifies several operational requirements and alternatives for the bidding process. Asphalt compaction testing is not required for submission to Macon-Bibb County. Patching areas must be at least one lane width to accommodate milling equipment, with the contractor exercising judgment on specific areas requiring treatment. The contractor is not responsible for driveway paving or shoulder building, grassing, or installation of low/soft shoulder signs on roads without curb and gutter. For manhole and water valve adjustments, bidders must quote both adjustment and riser options, with field determination to occur regarding which method will be employed.
