About this file
This document contains uniform component specifications for multiple federal bureaus. It outlines 22 different specifications for uniform items including dress shirts, polo shirts, trousers, skirts, and more.
The specifications provide details on materials, fabrics, colors, sizes, customization requirements, and images for each item. Performance requirements address factors like moisture wicking, UV protection, and conforming to true sizing. Several bureaus including the National Park Service, USACE, BLM, FWS, BOR, USPP, and others require uniforms adhering to the specifications. Items like dress shirts and trousers are designated as core uniform components.
Fabric content, weights, treatments, and colors vary between items and bureaus. Customization such as embroidery, patches, logos, and other identifiers are specified for each bureau and uniform type. Sizing charts are included for all gender and size variations. Images displayed show examples of current uniform items.

General Instructions
• Cutting: Collars, bands, pockets, and flaps should be cut to ensure uniformity.
• Stitching: Stitching appropriate to the construction and purpose of the shirt, and the location or application of the stitching, e.g. a lockstitch (301) or where inserting the sleeve and side closing operations, a safety stitch (516). • Buttonholes For Two-Piece Shirt Collar: The shirt should have 7 cut buttonholes down the front. For proper appearance with clip-on tie, the stand should be fastened with one button so there should be a tie space of ¼” when collar is buttoned.
Detail Design
• Two-Piece Shirt Collar: The garment should have a two-piece shirt collar. The points on the collar leaf should measure 3 ¼” in length and be topstitched ¼” from the edge. The collar leaf should be 1 ¾” from roll line to bottom edge of collar at center back. The collar stand should measure 1 5/16” at center back and be topstitched 1/16” from top and bottom edges. • Shoulder Epaulets: Shoulder epaulets should be 2” at sleeve head and tapered to 1 ¾”-1 ½”.
The epaulets should be stitched to the shoulder by a single needle machine forming an "X" beginning at the sleeve head and extending for approximately one-half the length of the strap. • Front for Two-Piece Shirt Collar: Each front should have a facing 2 ½” in width extending from the neckline to the bottom of the shirt and provided by a turn under of material. The left front should contain 6 vertical buttonholes placed ¾” from the edge of the plait and be 3 ½” apart. There should be one button on the collar stand placed ¾” from edge. The button stand should be 7/8” wide and be placed on the left side of the shirt. The buttons should be securely attached to the button stand corresponding to the buttonholes on the facing.
• Badge Reinforcement: The shirt should have a 1” wide inside sling type badge holder extending from the shoulder joining seam to pocket of the left front and constructed of the basic material. The flaps should be topstitched 1/8” from edge and attached to the shirt front with a double row, ¼” gauge stitching. The underside of the flap should have hook and pile tape, approximately 1” long by 3/8” wide, positioned on outer points of both pocket flaps.
• Pockets: Both pockets should have 1 ½” centered pleats stitched to prevent spreading. Pockets should be 5 ½” wide x 5 ¾” deep with bottom mitered corners. The left pocket should have a pencil slot 1 ½” from center edge. Upper hem should be ½” wide. Pockets should be topstitched 1/16” gauge with ¾” triangle tacks at upper corners. Both pockets should have an approximately 1” long by 3/8” wide piece of hook and pile tape positioned to correspond with the hook and pile tape on each outer scalloped flap point.
• Yoke & Back: The yoke should be constructed of two pieces. The outside yoke should be made of the same fabric as the outer shell of the garment and the inside yoke should be made of the lining fabric. The yoke should be 3 ½” at center back and 3 ¾” at armhole.
• Long Sleeves: Each sleeve should have a 5” long sleeve placket with a 1” wide top placket and a ½” wide bottom placket. The sleeve placket is 5” long with top and bottom facings. A vertical buttonhole should be sewn 2 ½” from top of cuff centered on top placket with matching button centered on bottom.
