Questions and Answers #3
1. Q: 129300. 2.8. There is no architectural details for the pre-fab laundry building, include insulation values. In discussions with the recommended supplier, the building comes with prefab panels with R Values as Roof =12 and Walls = 7.
The spec calls for:
"Roof Insulation: R-19 batt system with an R-11 liner system above, including thermal break spacer blocks.
Wall Insulation: R-13 batt system with R-6.5 continuous above, including thermal break spacer blocks."
There is no internal framing in the prefab building, and really no method available to install additional batt insulation to achieve these specified values. Please clarify or confirm the spec requirement for the additional batt insulation, or does the standard equipped building meet the intent without additional insulation?
A: Per the IECC (International Energy Conservation Code), the shed is exempt from the building thermal envelope provisions of the code. See performance criteria below to include R-Value, roof turbines, louver, and door requirements. Remaining criteria for the shed are represented in the specifications. Contractor to install required flashing, seals, and gaskets required to ensure shed is leak proof.
