RFI #1 – Specification section 26 32 13 refers to specification section 26 0801 ”Electrical Acceptance Testing”. I have been unable to find this specification, please provide.
USFS Response – New Spec Section 26 08 01 added. See Addendum #4.
RFI #2 – Regarding the “1x6 Wood Slats” at the Trash Enclosure (Ex: 2,6/A1.6):
a) What is the lumber species requirement (Douglas Fir, Cedar, Redwood, etc.)?
b) What is the lumber grade requirement?
USFS Response – See Section 32 31 19, para. 2.02.C for wood slat lumber species and grade (modified by Addendum #4).
RFI #3 – Regarding the “1x6 Wood Slats” at the CMU Fence (Ex: 3,4/A1.7):
a) What is the lumber species requirement (Douglas Fir, Cedar, Redwood, etc.)?
b) What is the lumber grade requirement?
USFS Response – See Section 32 31 19, para. 2.02.C for wood slat lumber species and grade (modified by Addendum #4).
RFI #4 – Regarding the Board and Battten Siding (Ex: HardiePanel and HardieBatten per A4.1):
a) ColorPLUS and WoodTone are 2 different color treatment options for this siding – please clarify, is this material to be ColorPLUS or WoodTone?
USFS Response – See Section 07 46 46 for clarification (modified by Addendum #4).
RFI #5 – Regarding the HardiePlank Trim Fascia Board per the Finish Schedule on A4.1:
a) Please confirm – is this material to be primed or factory color treated (Ex: ColorPLUS or WoodTone)?
b) If to be factory color treated – please clarify, is the intent ColorPLUS or WoodTone?
USFS Response – See Section 07 46 46 for clarification (modified by Addendum #4).
RFI #6 – Regarding FSC requirement for this project:
a) Please confirm – is there an FSC requirement for the lumber on this project?
b) Please confirm – is there an FSC requirement for the plywood sheathing on this project?
USFS Response – No Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) lumber certification is required for this project.
RFI #7 – Regarding the wood framing at the “Window Awning” (Ex: 5/A10.7)
a) What is the lumber species requirement for the 2x6, 6x6 and 6x8 (Douglas Fir, Cedar, Redwood, etc.)?
b) What is the lumber grade requirement for the 2x6, 6x6 and 6x8?
c) Is this exterior plywood to be CCX?
USFS Response – The wood framing is DF #1 and the sheathing is Struc 1 plywood per the Wood notes on Drawing S0.3. The plywood shall be exterior glue per Section 06 10 00, Para.
2.01.B.1. (See Addendum for revision to Section 06 10 00, Para. 2.01.A.1, wood grades, to match Drawing S0.3).
RFI #8 – Regarding the wood framing at the “Trellis” (Ex: A,B/S2.5)
a) What is the lumber species requirement for the 3x3, 4x4 and 6x14 (Douglas Fir, Cedar, Redwood, etc.)?
b) What is the lumber grade requirement for the 3x3, 4x4 and 6x14?
c) Please confirm – is this material to be pressure treated as noted on A,B/S2.5?
d) If material is to be pressure treated – please confirm, is ACQ acceptable?
e) If material is to be pressure treated – are incisor marks due to pressure treatment acceptable?
USFS Response – The wood framing is DF #1 per the Wood notes on S0.3 and is pressure treated lumber per Details A and B/S2.5. Alkaline Copper Quaternary (ACQ) is an acceptable pressure treatment compound, but requires exclusive use of fasteners approved for use with ACQ lumber.
RFI #9 – Please confirm if the USFS has been in contact with the City/State Officials regarding the road cut as well as the intended improvements. There is a substantial amount of coordination for this work and while the contractor will need to be included in this it is imperative that the owner and the architect lead these efforts as they could decide to impose added requirements.
USFS Response – Frontage improvements have been reviewed with City and designed to City standards. Final drawings have been submitted to the City and final approval is pending.
RFI #10 – Are there Solar Requirements for this project as there is a California Solar Mandate or does that not apply for this project?
USFS Response – The California Solar Mandate applies to new housing construction.
Photovoltaic scope is limited to conduit rough-in for future PV as shown on E Drawings (for example, key note 2/E3.3).
RFI #11 – Are site Rock Measurements measured based on exposed or total dimensions?
USFS Response – See Drawing A1.1, Rock Legend, for boulder sizing.
RFI #12 – Please confirm that all geotechnical recommendations have been accounted for in the drawings. It was insinuated that these were mostly covered during the site walk but we wanted to confirm which document takes the most precedence. Please confirm that in this case it will be Geotech Report, Specifications then Drawings in order of precedence.
USFS Response – All geotechnical requirements are included in the contract drawings and specifications. Per Spec Section 31 00 00, Para. 1.03.A, the geotechnical report is provided for Contractor information only. See Addendum for revised Spec Section 31 00 00.
RFI #13 – There was insinuation that to be successful on this project you would need to have 2 people onsite at all times. However the spec states the QCM can be part time for this project. We agree that this will take 2 people (at least) and suggest that this be confirmed as a contract requirement instead of this being part time. Additionally, we suggest that the Superintendent can dual hat as a SSHO at the same time. This would be a total of 2 personnel onsite at all times during construction. This confirmation will allow all bidders to bid equally and meet the needs of the government. If during construction the government wanted to require the QCM as full time, the winning bidder could make the case that that person was “part time” and request added compensation. This is what we are trying to avoid.
USFS Response – A full time Quality Control Manager is required. See Addendum for revision to Section 01 45 00, Para. 1.04.A.
RFI #14 – Please provide a site furnishings specification. Please include flag poles with this as well.
USFS Response – See Section 32 33 13 – SITE FURNISHINGS. See Para. 2.03 for Flagpole.
RFI #15 – Confirm that the USFS has taken into account the water treatment requirement into account for all water leaving site (Post Construction).
USFS Response – Storm water treatment is designed and shown on the Civil Drawings.
RFI #16 – Refer to sheet E5.0: the plans call for two runs of (4) 600 kcmil in the secondary conduit from the transformer to the main switchboard. Is this wire furnished by the contractor, or the utility?
USFS Response – See Addendum for clarification that the secondary feeder conductors from the transformer to the main switchboard are provided by utility company.
RFI #17 – Please provide details regarding the concrete bases for fixtures M, N, and P.
USFS Response – See Addendum for detail of concrete base for Fixture P. No concrete bases intended for landscape lighting Fixtures M and N.
RFI #18 – Detail 4/5 on sheet A10.4 calls for GWB to be full height at sound and fire rated walls and to see wall type details for which walls are to be sound walls and fire walls. Sheet A 2.7 Wall
Type Details shows no sound walls or fire walls. Is this correct that there are no sound walls or fire walls?
USFS Response – See Addendum for note on Drawing A10.4 clarifying sound insulated walls to be extended full height. There are no fire rated walls in project.
RFI #19 – Please provide a copy of the pre-construction job walk sign-in sheet.
USFS Response – Provided with Amendment A00002 attachments.
RFI #20 – Note @ 10/A8.5 states: “Extend GWB 6 inches above bottom of ceiling at interior walls and to bottom of roof/floor structure at fire and sound rated walls”. Wall Types shown at A2.7 and floor plans do not designate fire or sound rated walls. Please clarify where fire and sound rated walls with full height gypsum wall board occur.
USFS Response – See Addendum for note on Drawing A10.4 clarifying sound insulated walls to be extended full height. There are no fire rated walls in project.
RFI #21 – Drawing E2.1 and Drawing E2.2 appear to be the same. Is there an Alt #3 for the Lighting floor Plan? or just Alt# 1 & 2. Please Clarify.
USFS Response – See Addendum for revised Drawing E2.2, clarifying difference between Alt 2 and Alt 3.
