1.5.1 Hack n’ Squirt Treatment

Eastern Region

• One hack per inch of diameter.

• Spaced injections, 1 to 2 inches apart.

• Herbicides: triclopyr, imazapyr, glyphosate (w/ imazapyr mix)

• Timing: Best applied June 15 to November 1st

1.5.2 Basal Bark Treatment

Eastern Region

• Follow label directions for low volume basal spray method

• Treat stems up to 5 inch basal diameter

• Spray lower 12-15 inches above ground line

• Timing: dormant or growing season, but above freezing

• Herbicides: triclopyr, imazapyr

1.5.3 Cut Stem (Stump) Treatment

Eastern Region

• Stumps: 6” or less

• High stumps allowed on <2” DRC trees.

• Timing: Best applied June 15 to November 1.

• Herbicides: triclopyr, imazapyr, glyphosate

1.5.4 Foliar Spray Treatment

Eastern Region

• For undesirable; stumps, re-sprouts & small trees <6 ft.

tall.

• Timing: Typically May 1 to early October.

• Herbicides: triclopyr, imazapyr, glyphosate

1.5.5 Manual Slashdown Treatment

Eastern Region

• Stumps: 6” or less.

• Slash trees to the ground, eliminating hangups.

• General Timing and Slash Disposal: Variable by Task Order and Scheduled Line Item.

• Site Prep and Midstory: Preferred Late April-Early

October to reduce sprouting

• 2.1: Site Preparation for Natural or Artificial Regeneration

• Following a variety of harvest treatments, use herbicide or chainsaw to treat stems 1” at ground (basal diameter) and up to 8 inches DBH.

• 2.1.1: Site Prep: Manual Slashdown- Chainsaw

• 2.1.2: Site Prep: Herbicide by “Agreed To” Method (Hack ‘n’ Squirt, Cut Stem/Stump, Basal, Foliar)

• Herbicide includes spraying stumps/sprouts of undesirables cut or damaged during harvest.

Midstory Control Treatments

• 2.2: Midstory Control

• Typically a pre-harvest treatment.

• Use herbicide or chainsaw to fell or treat stems 1” at ground (basal diameter) and up to 8 inches DBH.

• Can occur following a light, thinning harvest or a prescribed burn.

• Conditions following harvesting or burning can greatly reduce small stem numbers.

• Planting at various densities using extended bars or spade shovels

• Locations To Be Determined: Possibility for hardwood supplemental plantings to enrich natural regeneration.

• Typically hard mast species, but could be others.

Fireline Construction

Eastern Region

• Use chainsaws, leaf blowers, and hand tools (rakes, etc.) to construct fireline.

• Cut trees and brush 6 feet width, exposing 4 feet to bare mineral soil within center of corridor.

• Cut vegetation 8 feet above the corridor.

• Timing: Variable, but timed with other ongoing task orders in the general vicinity.

• AQL:

• 90% of the specified distance is satisfactorily constructed.

• Brush is scattered, not piled

1.9 Communication

Eastern Region

• Key to success on the overall IDIQ and every Task Order.

• Review all correspondence and specifications and reach out to COR for clarification.

• Provide regular notifications of work locations and status of completion.

• Correspond with email and phone

• Contracting Officer Representative (COR) and Contracting Officer (CO) are the Government representatives for every Task Order.

• Contractor representative and COR will review special conditions or areas prior to treatment implementation.

Inspections

Eastern Region

• Normal business hours, but exceptions are allowed

• Discuss with COR prior to the start of the Task Order

• Conducted by COR and possibly assistant(s)

• Timely for all treatments

• Visual and Plot Based Methods

• Randomly Distributed throughout unit

Herbicide Inspections

Eastern Region

• Herbicide treatments need three weeks during growing season for AQL evidence of kill.

• Early Growing Season and Dormant Season Inspections must wait to at least June 1st to be inspected.

• Dormant season herbicide: Consideration for partial payment (50%) if meets AQL

• Based on visual verification of dye

• Inspections within one week of full completion of at least one treatment unit of a Task Order line item.

Acceptable Quality Limits

Eastern Region

• Meet or exceed target kill rate (90%)

• Do not exceed kill to non-targets;

• 5%: Hack n’ Squirt, Cut Stem/Stump, Slashdown, Planting, Fireline

• 15%: Basal bark and Foliar

• Herbicide Daily Herbicide Logs :

• Must turn in completed prior to or at invoicing.
