SECTION - 09 65 00

RESILIENT FLOORING

PART 1 GENERAL

1.1 SD-03 PRODUCT DATA: Provide product data for each type of Resilient Flooring and accessory included in the project.

1.2 SD-04 SAMPLES: Provide samples for each type of Resilient Flooring and accessory included in the project. Minimum sample size 6 inches x 6 inches, except provide 6 inch linear inches of wall base. Provide in accordance with specified Colorway.

1.3 SD-06 TEST REPORTS: Submit results from ASTM 1869 and ASTM 2170. Provide 3

ASTM 2170 sample locations per 1000 SF.

1.4 SUPERINTENDENT QUALIFICATIONS: Engage a resilient flooring installer with not less than 5 years consecutive successful experience in resilient flooring installations similar in size and type to the resilient flooring requirements of the project.

1.5 MEASUREMENT VERIFICATION: Dimensions shown on drawings are approximate.

It is the flooring contractor's responsibility to verify all dimensions and job site conditions.

1.6 DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING: Deliver materials to the building site in original unopened containers bearing the manufacturer's name, style name, pattern color name and number, production run, project identification, and handling instructions. Store materials in a clean, dry, secure, and well-ventilated area, stacked according to manufacturer's recommendations. Resilient flooring must acclimate to the facility for 48 hours prior to installation.

1.7 AMBIENT CONDITIONS: Maintain areas in which resilient flooring is to be installed at a temperature above 60 degrees F and below 90 degrees F for 2 days prior to installation, during installation, and for 2 days after installation. Provide temporary ventilation during work of this section. Maintain a minimum temperature of 55 degrees F thereafter for the duration of the contract.

PART 2 PRODUCTS

2.1 GENERAL: GENERAL: Provide all resilient flooring from a single manufacturer, Armstrong, Tarkett or Mannington.

a. Floor Surface must have a Static Coefficient of Friction not less than 0.6 for level surfaces and 0.8 for ramp surfaces when tested in accordance with ASTM D

2047.

2.2 ADHESIVES: Provide adhesives for flooring, base, and accessories as recommended by the manufacturer and comply with local indoor air quality standards. Volatile Organic

Chemical content shall be less than 50 grams/L. Provide high moisture adhesives for latrines, break rooms, janitor rooms and other similar wet spaces.

2.3 RESILIENT FLOOR TILE: Provide resilient floor in accordance with ASTM F 970, Static Load Limit at 250 PSI ≤ 0.005 inch.

2.4 VINYL COMPOSITE FLOOR TILE: Provide vinyl composite floor tile in accordance with ASTM F1066. Classification: Through Pattern, Type II. Thickness: 0.125 inch.

Installation Pattern: quarter turn. Size: 12 inches x 12 inches.

2.5 LUXURY VINYL TILE: Provide luxury vinyl tile in accordance with ASTM F1700.

Class III, Printed Film Vinyl Tile: Type A or Type B. Thickness: 0.125 inch minimum.

Wear Layer Thickness: .02 inch minimum.

2.6 HETEROGENEOUS SHEET VINYL: Provide resilient sheet flooring in accordance with ASTM F 970, Static Load Limit at 175 PSI ≤ 0.005 inch. Provide in widest rolls practicable. Heat weld seams with matching weld rod. Provide heterogeneous sheet vinyl in accordance with ASTM F 1303. Classification: Type II, Grade 1, Class A Backing;

ISO 10582, Type I. Thickness: 0.08 inch minimum. Wear Layer Thickness: 0.02 inch minimum.

2.7 RUBBER ATHLETIC FLOORING: Provide rubber flooring of Recycled SBR rubber colored EPDM virgin rubber flecks. Thickness: 0.375 inch minimum. Tile Size: 36 inches x 36 inches.

2.8 RESILIENT STAIR ACCESSORIES: Provide resilient stair accessories in accordance with ASTM F2169. Material: Composition A, Rubber treads. Surface Design: Type 2, raised square shapes. Treads and risers must have a slip resistant profile and a radius edge.

2.9 RESILIENT MOLDING ACCESSORIES: Provide Reducers, thresholds, saddles, and feature strips as required at transitions between flooring materials and conceal seams of

Vulcanized Thermoset rubber.

2.10 STANDARD BASE: Provide resilient wall base in accordance with ASTM F1861.

Classification: Type TP – Rubber, Style B. Adhere using full spread adhesives, provide high moisture adhesives for latrines, break rooms, janitor rooms, and other similar wet spaces. Thickness: 0.125 inch minimum. Height: 4 inches. Finish: Satin. Provide in

Longest coils practicable to minimize seams, 120 foot minimum. Exterior Corners must be grooved and site formed, base must be continuous 24 inches each side of corner.

Inside Corners must be formed by matching preformed corners with 4 inch returns.

3.1 EXAMINATION: Test concrete slabs in accordance with ASTM F 1869. Emission

Level: 3 pounds of water/1000 square feet over 24 hours.

3.2 PREPARATION: Prepare concrete floors in accordance with ASTM F 710 and in accordance with manufacturer's specifications to Concrete Surface Profile (CSP) 3.

Correct all defects such as rough or scaling concrete, chalk and dust, cracks, low spots, high spots, and uneven surfaces. Repair all damaged portions of concrete slabs as recommended by the flooring manufacturer. Provide a smooth, true, level plane for surface preparation of the flooring, except where indicated as sloped. Floor to be flat to within 3/16 inch in 10 feet. Remove concrete curing and sealer compounds from the slabs, other than the type that does not adversely affect adhesion. Remove paint, varnish, oils, release agents, sealers, waxes, and adhesives, as required by the flooring product in accordance with manufacturer's printed installation instructions.

3.3 INSTALLATION: Install Resilient Flooring and Accessories in accordance with manufacturer's printed installation instructions. Provide square, symmetrical, tight, and even flooring lines and joints. Keep each floor in true, level plane, except where slope is indicated. Cut flooring to fit around all permanent fixtures, built-in furniture and cabinets, pipes, and outlets. Seams must be straight. Adhere using Full spread adhesives. Provide high moisture adhesives for latrines, break rooms, janitor rooms, and other similar wet spaces.

3.4 RESILIENT TILE FLOORING: Tile must be laid out symmetrically about the center of the space, have aligned joints, patterned in the same direction, with tiles greater than or equal to 6 inches at the room edges.

3.5 RESILIENT SHEET FLOORING: Heat Welding: Grooving resilient flooring seams must be accomplished with hand or electric tools. Tools must be specifically designed for heat welding seams and must be the proper size based on the size of the manufactures welding rod. Weld using a hot air gun, the tip must be the proper size based on the welding rod.

3.6 CLEANING: Immediately upon completion of installation of flooring in a room or an area, dry/clean the flooring and adjacent surfaces to remove all surplus adhesive. Clean flooring as recommended in accordance with manufacturer's printed maintenance instructions and within the recommended time frame. As required by the manufacturer, apply the recommended number of coats and type of polish and/or finish in accordance with manufacturer's written instructions.

3.7 VCT FINISH: Clean, strip, seal and apply 6 coats of acrylic floor finish, IAW manufactures recommendations

3.8 PROTECTION: Schedule resilient flooring application after the completion of other work which would damage the finished surface of the flooring. Do not permit traffic or movement of furniture or equipment in areas where resilient material was installed, for at least 24 hours after installation.
