DIVISION 07 – THERMAL AND MOISTURE PROTECTION

SECTION - 07 60 00

FLASHING AND SHEET METAL

PART 1 GENERAL

1.1 SD-04 SAMPLES: Submit a sample of all flashing profiles representing the material, gauge or ounce, finish and profile.

1.2 SUPERINTENDENT QUALIFICATIONS: Contractors shall have a minimum of five years’ experience successfully installing flashing and sheet metal.

1.3 DELIVERY, HANDLING, AND STORAGE: Package and protect materials during shipment. Uncrate and inspect materials for damage, dampness, and wet-storage stains upon delivery to the job site. Remove from the site and replace damaged materials that cannot be restored to like-new condition. Handle sheet metal items to avoid damage to surfaces, edges, and ends. Store materials in dry, weather-tight, ventilated areas until immediately before installation.

PART 2 PRODUCTS

2.1 GENERAL: Furnish sheet metal items in 10 foot lengths minimum. Provide accessories and other items essential to complete the sheet metal installation. Provide accessories made of the same or compatible materials as the items to which they are applied.

Fabricate sheet metal items of the materials gage, thickness, or weight specified.

Fabricate flashing and trim to comply with the recommendations of National Roofing

Contractors Association (NRCA) Architectural Metal Flashing, Condensation and Air

Leakage Control, and Reroofing.

2.2 METAL FLASHING: Provide Aluminum Flashing, except provide Steel flashing for metal roofs.

a. GUTTERS: Provide NRCA Style A, gutters sized to required capacity. Gutters shall be the same size for the entire facility.

i. Support Brackets and Straps: Provide 0.125 inch by 1 inch brackets length as required every 24 inches.

b. DOWNSPOUT: Provide Box style downspout with formed closure.

i. Outlet Tubes: Provide outlet tubes that extend 2 inches beyond the bottom of the gutter with 0.375 inch flange.

ii. Elbows: Provide Type A elbows.

iii. Downspout Straps: Provide 26 gauge straps every 10 feet.

2.3 LIQUID APPLIED FLASHING: Provide liquid applied flashing to seal all joints and fasteners.

2.4 FABRIC FLASHING: Provide self-adhering type 304 stainless steel fabric flashing.

a. Termination Bars: Provide 14 gauge equivalent Aluminum Termination Bar with foam sealant strip and 0.25-inch sealant flange bent 45-degrees from the plane of the termination bar.

b. Drip plate: Provide Type 304 Stainless Steel Drip Plate with foam sealant strip.

2.5 FINISH: Mechanically clean and chemically pretreat fabricated items in accordance with the coating manufacturer’s requirements and AAMA requirements for the finish indicated. Flashing shall have a factory applied polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) coating:

Base coat shall be the manufacturer's recommended prime coat, the top coat shall be a

50% Kynar resin-based coating complying with AAMA 2604 and AAMA 621. Color shall be in FS-24084 (Dark Bronze) OUN, as selected from the manufacturer’s standard colors.

2.6 FASTENERS: Use the same metal or a metal compatible with the item fastened. Use

Stainless steel fasteners to fasten dissimilar materials.

2.7 LOUVERS: Provide wind driven rain hurricane louvers.

PART 3 EXECUTION

3.1 GENERAL REQUIREMENTS: Finished sheet metalwork shall form a weathertight construction without waves, warps, buckles, fastening stresses or distortion, which allows for expansion and contraction. Sheet metal mechanic is responsible for cutting, fitting, drilling, and other operations in connection with sheet metal required to accommodate the work of other trades.

3.2 PROTECTION FROM CONTACT WITH DISSIMILAR MATERIALS: Paint with heavy-bodied bituminous paint surfaces in contact with dissimilar metal, or separate the surfaces by means of moisture proof building felts.

3.3 EXPANSION AND CONTRACTION: Provide expansion and contraction joints at not more than 40 foot intervals. Provide an additional joint where the distance between the last expansion joint and the end of the continuous run is more than half the required interval. Space joints evenly.

3.4 FLASHING INSTALLATION: Install flashing in accordance with Architectural Sheet

Metal Manual (SMACNA 1793), and NRCA (National Roofing Contractors Association) recommendations and standard details for the applicable application.

3.5 VALLEY FLASHING: Provide open valley W-Flashing in all valleys

3.6 WINDOW FLASHING: Construct opening or provide blocking so water drains to the exterior, sills shall slope at 2% minimum. Provide metal end and back dams, color FS-

24084 (Dark Bronze), over continuous liquid applied window flashing over the entire window opening and extending the full depth of the jamb.

3.7 LIQUID APPLIED FLASHING: Install liquid applied flashing in accordance with the manufactures specifications and written recommendations. Liquid flashing shall not be exposed in the finished work. Provide liquid flashing to seal all joints and fasteners in sheathing and other securing devices.

3.8 WINDOW HEAD AND FOUNDATION FLASHING: Provide fabric flashing at foundations and window heads. Fabric Flashing shall terminate in a termination bar with sealant over in masonry cavity, and with a drip plate FS-24084 (Dark Bronze) where exposed in the finished work. Install flashing system IAW flashing system manufacturer’s specifications using one manufacturer’s recommended products.
