About this file
This is a Payment Bond document for Greenwood County, South Carolina, related to a patching, resurfacing, and line striping project on selected county roads scheduled for April 2026. The bond serves as a financial guarantee that the principal contractor and any subcontractors will promptly pay all laborers, material suppliers, and equipment rental providers involved in the project execution. The bond becomes binding upon contract award and remains in effect throughout the project duration and any amendments or extensions to the contract documents. Claimants who have supplied labor or materials and remain unpaid may institute legal action against the bond within ninety days of performing their last work or supplying their final materials, provided written notice is given to the principal within the specified timeframe. However, no action may commence more than one year from the date the last labor was performed or materials were supplied.
The payment bond amount is left blank in this template document, to be completed upon contract execution. The bond protects all claimants supplying labor or materials, including public utility services and equipment rentals, whether or not those materials become component parts of the final public work. The bond stipulates that alterations, changes, additions, or extensions of time granted by the obligee will not release the principal or surety from liability obligations. The surety waives notice of any such modifications. Jurisdiction for any legal action is limited to the appropriate county court where the agreement is performed or other counties as South Carolina statutes allow, or the applicable United States district court. The document provides signature blocks for individual principals, partnerships, and corporations, with the corporate surety requiring an attorney-in-fact authorization dated concurrent with the bond execution.
