Seismic and Wind Requirements
Seismic Requirements, IBC-15 Section 1704.3
Description of seismic-force-resisting system and designated seismic systems subject to special inspections: The steel sheet pile (SSP) bulkhead and concrete gravity wall acts as the seismic-force-resisting system. These structures fall under Group U occupancy (retaining walls) as described in Section 312.1 of the IBC. In accordance with Section 1704.1, special inspections are not explicitly required for Group U occupancy structures. However, as a means of providing sound quality control during construction, the Engineer will require the following inspection:
Inspection for the SSP bulkhead will following IBC Table 1705.7 for Driving Deep Foundation
Elements as outlined in this document.
Inspection for the concrete gravity wall will follow IBC Table 1705.3 for Concrete Construction as outlined in this document.
Welded and bolted connections are incidental to the sacrificial galvanic anode construction, marine fender installation, marine cleat installation, and timber boardwalk installation outlined in the Contract Drawings. These activities are considered non-structural. As such, the minimum level of inspection activities are required as outlined in this document.
Wind Requirements, IBC-15 Section 1704.3
Description of wind-force-resisting system and designated wind systems subject to special inspections: The SSP bulkhead and concrete gravity wall are at-grade structures that are not subject to detrimental wind forces. Therefore, special inspections are not applicable for wind-force-resisting systems.
