About this opportunity

Monroe County, Florida, acting through its Purchasing Office, is soliciting sealed responses for annual inspections and repairs of approximately seventy (70) emergency generators, due December 9, 2026 at 3:00 p.m. through the Bonfire electronic platform. Bids are accepted only through Bonfire, and emailed, mailed, or hand-delivered bids will not be accepted.

The scope covers engines, electronics, electrical load, and transfer equipment on each generator. The annual major inspection, which includes electrical load testing, must be completed before hurricane season begins June 1. The County's generator inventory spans Key West, Lower Keys, Middle Keys, and Upper Keys, with units from 12 kW to 1,100 kW at jails, fire stations, administrative buildings, sheriff substations, airports, and emergency operations centers. The inventory lists several non-operational portable units in the Middle and Upper Keys with zero fuel levels, which points to repair work beyond inspection.

Selection is based on qualifications, experience, and pricing, according to the RFP summary. Contractors must demonstrate competency in managing large-scale generator maintenance programs and must perform electrical load testing and comprehensive equipment evaluations.

The notice was published in local publications on November 5 and 6, 2026. Virtual bid opening occurs by Zoom at the same date and time as the submission deadline. Bidders can obtain submission requirements and selection criteria through the Bonfire platform or at www.monroecounty-fl.gov/BonfireBids. Use of Bonfire carries no cost to bidders. Financial documents must be uploaded separately from the main proposal, and bidders should not include confidential financial information in the proposal itself. Under Florida Statute 119.071, proposals become public after an intended decision or thirty (30) days, whichever is earlier, unless bids are rejected, and financial information in proposals is not confidential.
