About this opportunity
The State of Utah Division of Purchasing, conducting through the Division of Wildlife Resources, is soliciting bids on hand cut and pile wildfire fuels reduction services across 749 acres in Big Cottonwood Canyon, with bids due August 13, 2026 and a mandatory site visit on August 5, 2026 at 10:00 a.m. at the Days Fork Trailhead. Participation is restricted to prequalified contractors only — bidders not on the current pre-approved/pre-qualified vendor list are ineligible to submit. Per Utah Procurement Rule R33-6-103, an authorized representative must attend the entire mandatory site visit in person; prospective bidders arriving after the stated start time or failing to attend the full duration will be disqualified and prohibited from submitting a bid.
The project encompasses hand cutting and piling of mixed conifer, aspen, juniper, and deciduous shrubs across four geographic zones: Mineral Fork (Units 1–8, 106 acres), Mill D North (Units 9–28, 269 acres), Days Fork (Units 43–53, 256 acres), and Cardiff (Units 29–42, 118 acres). Work occurs at elevations between 7,000 and 9,800 feet in the Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest, approximately 12 miles east of Salt Lake City, to reduce catastrophic wildfire risk and improve wildlife habitat. Access includes paved highways, gravel and dirt roads, motorized trails, and foot travel, with motorized vehicle width restrictions (54 inches maximum) in certain units. The 36 project units vary from 1 to 51 acres each, with specifications for 30–50 piles per acre. Special requirements apply to Mill D and Cardiff units regarding waterline protection and conifer encroachment parameters. Contractors must provide all labor, equipment, supervision, transportation, and operating supplies; carry GPS devices with mapping applications such as Avenza or FieldMaps; and comply with the Salt Lake Ranger District Motor Vehicle Use Map and local traffic regulations.
The contract performance period runs August 1, 2026 through November 30, 2026. Bids must be submitted on a price-per-acre basis, with the per-acre rate extended by the total acreage of awarded units. Project management and inspection oversight is provided by Utah DNR personnel and U.S. Forest Service inspectors. An attendance log documenting all site-visit attendees, their entities, and contact information will be published as an addendum, as will any verbal modifications reduced to writing.
