About this opportunity

Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory (Fermilab), operated by Fermi Forward Discovery Group, LLC on behalf of the Department of Energy, is soliciting information regarding the design, fabrication, and potential installation of access platforms for the MAGIS-100 experiment, a 100-meter deep shaft facility in Batavia, Illinois. The RFI seeks vendors capable of designing non-magnetic platforms constructed from materials such as stainless steel, aluminum, copper, or titanium that comply with OSHA requirements and safely allow personnel access to suspended instrumentation for regular maintenance. Key requirements include designing five platform types with specific dimensions and load ratings, accommodating laser-controlled area requirements, maintaining crane cable clearance tolerances, and minimizing gaps between platforms and walls while allowing removable sections for maintenance. Minimum submission requirements include sketches, drawings, or models of proposed designs; budgetary cost and lead time estimates; descriptions of installation responsibilities; and examples of previous similar work. The original response deadline of March 5, 2026, was extended to March 10, 2026, at 5:00 PM Central Time via Amendment 02 issued on February 27, 2026, with a question deadline that passed on February 17, 2026.

This procurement includes no set-aside designation and is an informational RFI only, meaning no subcontract will be awarded as a result and responses will not impact evaluation of future RFP submissions. No incumbent contractor or award value information is specified in the solicitation documents. The project requires five distinct platform types with varying quantities: one split-level laser transport system platform, one ground-level platform, three atom source landings, three atom source platforms rated for 3,000 pounds each with removable cage structures, and fourteen connection node platforms rated for 1,000 pounds each. The scope includes optional installation services, with vendors able to provide pricing estimates or note if installation would be subcontracted to others. All work will be performed at Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory, Batavia, Illinois 60510, with procurement anticipated near the end of 2026, and interested parties responding to this RFI will be included on the bidders list for any subsequent Request for Proposals.
