About this file

This is a Request for Information (RFI) issued by Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory (Fermilab), an Office of Science Laboratory operated by Fermi Forward Discovery Group, LLC (FFDG) for the Department of Energy, regarding the design and fabrication of access platforms for the MAGIS-100 experiment. The MAGIS-100 experiment consists of instrumentation suspended vertically along a 100-meter deep shaft, and platforms are required to provide safe personnel access for regular maintenance. Platforms within 20 feet of the top and bottom of the shaft will be accessed via ladders, while mid-shaft platforms will be accessed via suspended scaffolds supported by davits or an access basket suspended from an overhead crane. Fermilab has developed a latch/stabilizer assembly to secure suspended scaffolds or baskets to platforms to prevent horizontal movement during personnel transfer. The RFI seeks to identify vendors capable of designing, fabricating, and potentially installing these required platforms.

Responses to this RFI are due by March 5, 2026, at 5:00 PM Central Time via email to Procurement Specialist Danielle Amico (damico@fnal.gov; 630-840-3207). A virtual pre-RFI meeting is scheduled for February 10, 2026, at 2:00 PM Central Time, with a question deadline of February 17, 2026. Minimum submission requirements include sketches, drawings, and/or models of proposed platform designs; budgetary cost and lead time estimates; descriptions of installation responsibilities; examples of previous similar work; and design recommendations. Fermilab notes that this RFI is for informational purposes only—no subcontract will be awarded as a result, responses will not impact evaluation of future RFP submissions, and participation does not commit FFDG or the government to pay any response preparation costs. All interested parties responding will be included on the bidders list for any subsequent Request for Proposals.

Request for Information (RFI)

MAGIS-100 ACCESS PLATFORMS

January 27, 2026

1. INTRODUCTION

Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory (Fermilab) is an Office of Science Laboratory managed and operated on behalf of the Department of Energy (DOE) by Fermi Forward Discovery Group, LLC (FFDG).

FFDG is requesting information regarding platforms designed for personnel to safely access regions of the

MAGIS-100 experiment. The project is currently in the Preliminary Design phase, with procurement of the required equipment anticipated near the end of 2026. During this planning stage, it is essential to understand vendors’ capabilities to meet the specific requirements for this project. The purpose of this

RFI is to identify vendors who can design, fabricate, and potentially install the required platforms.

The MAGIS-100 experiment consists of instrumentation that is suspended vertically along the height of a

100m deep shaft. Platforms are needed to provide access to the instrumentation so that regular maintenance can occur. The platforms located within 20ft of the top and bottom of the shaft will primarily be accessed via ladders from their respective levels. Platforms in the middle of the shaft will be accessed via a suspended scaffold supported by davits or an access basket suspended from the overhead crane.

Fermi has developed a latch (stabilizer assembly) that can be used at discrete points to secure the suspended scaffold or basket to the platform to prevent movement in the horizontal plane so that personnel can safely transfer from one to the other.

Please note that this Request for Information (RFI) is for informational purposes only -- no subcontract will be awarded as a result. A response to the RFI, or lack thereof, will have no impact on the evaluation of responses to any subsequent Request for Proposals (RFP). Responses will be used solely for information and planning purposes.

5. SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS

The information requested in support of this RFI should be submitted via email. Responders may also include additional information.

At a minimum, the responder should include the following information:

• Sketch, drawing, and/or model of a proposed platform design.

• Budgetary cost and lead time estimate.

• A description of the installation that the vendor will perform or that the vendor will require others to perform.

• Examples of previous work designing and/or installing similar platforms if available.

• Design recommendations and proposed adjustments are welcome.

All images and drawings provided by Fermilab are conceptual at this time; necessary details will be provided when formal proposals are requested, and it will be up to the vendor to generate the detailed drawings and STEP files for their designs.

Participation in this RFI does not commit FFDG or the United States Government to pay any costs incurred in the preparation or submission of a response, nor does it imply any promises or preference in the award of any future subcontract. All interested parties will be included in the bidders list for any subsequent

Request for Proposal (RFP).
