About this opportunity
Brookhaven Science Associates, operator of Brookhaven National Laboratory under a U.S. Department of Energy contract, is seeking sources of interest for electronics cabinets and rack-mounted solutions for the Electron Ion Collider, with responses due by 5:00 P.M. EST June 25, 2026.
This is a sources-sought notice and request for information only; no solicitation currently exists. The procurement involves approximately 900 cabinets procured over an estimated five-year period from 2027 to 2032. Work is performed at Brookhaven National Laboratory, Upton, New York.
Respondents must demonstrate past experience within the past five years producing electronics cabinets and rack-mounted solutions meeting specification EIC-PSG-SPC-006. The three cabinet configurations include two fan-cooled ambient air-cooling designs (3 kilowatt maximum heat removal, 52U height) and one heat exchanger water-cooled design (8 kilowatt maximum heat removal, 52U height, 31.5" width, 42" depth). Suppliers must provide budgetary pricing for the three configurations at quantities of 25, 50, 100, 250, and 500 units; estimated lead times; minimum order quantities; capabilities to provide Computational Fluid Dynamics analysis; and demonstration of U.S. manufacturing capabilities. All racks must comply with NFPA 70, UL 1995, NEMA 250 Type 12, UL 50/UL 50E, and be NRTL Listed. Racks must support minimum 400 kilograms of equipment load and achieve factor of safety of at least 3 for lifting lugs and internal structures.
Suppliers must comply with ISO 9001 quality management standards, BNL-QA-101 Revision 04/2025 quality assurance requirements, and BSA General Terms and Conditions for Noncommercial Items. Contact Cindy Blanchard, Senior Contracts Specialist, at cblanchar@bnl.gov or (631) 344-5770.
