About this opportunity
The Department of Energy Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory is procuring construction services for the Cross Gallery Southwest Annex Refresh Project, which involves a 90-day renovation of specific rooms (SW-204 and SW-206) including painting, removing paneling, addressing door and wall conditions, priming and painting ductwork, and replacing vinyl base. The scope also includes door replacement work with detailed specifications for hollow metal doors, specialized hardware, and fire-rated assemblies that must comply with NFPA 80 standards. Contractors must demonstrate qualifications in commercial and institutional building construction and meet comprehensive safety, quality, and environmental requirements as outlined in the extensive exhibit documentation. While specific evaluation criteria are not detailed in the solicitation notice, the procurement requires submission of multiple forms including proposal certifications, safety questionnaires, and bond documentation. Key dates include a mandatory pre-proposal meeting and site visit scheduled for August 8, 2025, at 10:00 AM, with proposal submissions due by August 29, 2025, following two amendments that extended the original deadline.
This opportunity is designated as a Total Small Business set-aside under NAICS code 236220 (Commercial and Institutional Building Construction) with a size standard of $45.0 million, though no specific contract value or budget range is disclosed in the available documentation. No incumbent contractors are identified in the solicitation materials. The work will be performed at the Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory facility in Batavia, Illinois, during normal lab hours from 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM, with the anticipated Notice to Proceed tentatively scheduled for mid-September 2025. The project area will be completely vacant during construction, with Fermilab handling furniture relocation and providing a 10-yard roll-off container for debris removal. Parking will be available for 2-3 contractor vehicles in the courtyard area, with potential additional spaces in the horseshoe parking area.
