About this opportunity
This Special Notice is published by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) Johnson Space Center. It announces a two-day Technical Interchange Meeting (TIM) regarding NASA's Commercial Low-Earth Orbit (LEO) Development Program (CLDP). The purpose of the TIM is for NASA to outline safety best practices, lessons learned, and core processes needed to support safe operations and utilization of commercial LEO destination capabilities.
The objective of the TIM is to maintain open communication with the private sector to aid in the development of safe, reliable, and cost-effective commercial LEO space destination capabilities that can support NASA astronauts and other spaceflight participants. Interested parties must RSVP by August 9, 2024 and are limited to a maximum of 5 in-person attendees per company, as there is no virtual attendance option. NASA is developing requirements for Commercial LEO Destination (CLD) capabilities and will use the information received during the TIM to inform its CLDP strategy, which it may share with other NASA program stakeholders.

Background:
As NASA plans for the retirement of the International Space Station at the end of the decade, the ability of private industry to take on the task of providing routine utilization of low-Earth orbit and maintaining a continuous U.S. presence in space is of vital importance to both NASA and U.S. goals.
In a multiphase strategy, the Lyndon B. Johnson Space Center’s (JSC) Commercial Low-Earth Orbit Development Program (CLDP) is helping to spur the development of new low-Earth orbit space destinations and supporting systems from private industry. These systems include end-to-end services such as the in-orbit destination, visiting vehicles, and supporting launch vehicles and ground systems.
NASA is currently developing requirements for Commercial LEO Destination (CLD) capabilities that would be able to support NASA astronauts and other spaceflight participants safely in LEO on a commercially owned and operated space system. NASA anticipates a CLD-provider will be required to be a U.S. Commercial Provider as defined in 51 USC § 50101(7). See link here for additional information: https://www.nasa.gov/leo-economy/low-earth-orbit-economy/
Purpose:
NASA’s CLDP invites industry to attend a TIM regarding CLDP’s draft concepts on Destination and Payload Safety. NASA will outline Safety best practices and lessons learned from NASA Human Spaceflight Programs along with core activities and processes needed to support safe operations and utilization. This two-day event will be hosted at JSC’s Gilruth Center (Destiny Ballroom) in Houston, TX on August 13th, and 14th, 2024. The agenda is included in the attachment "0 - Agenda CLDP Safety TIM"
This event supports NASA’s effort to maintain open communications with the private sector that could aid in the development of safe, reliable, innovative, and cost-effective space destination capabilities.
