About this opportunity

Argonne National Laboratory, operated by UChicago Argonne, LLC under the U.S. Department of Energy Office of Science, is seeking proposals for the design, manufacture, testing, delivery, and installation of a High Heat Load Mirror System for the 12-ID beamline at the Advanced Photon Source. This Request for Proposal (RFP No. 6-S176-Q-00096-00) requires a firm fixed-price proposal for a precision optical system featuring a 600 mm × 45 mm silicon single crystal mirror with three reflective stripes (Palladium, Silicon, Platinum) capable of mechanical bending and motorized motion control. Key contract requirements include compliance with ultra-high vacuum specifications, strict optical surface tolerances, advanced cooling mechanisms using eutectic bath methods, and comprehensive motion control capabilities with motorized X, Y, and rotational axes. The laboratory will evaluate proposals using a Best Value/Trade-Off methodology, with evaluation criteria emphasizing technical specification compliance, justification of optical and motion specifications, tolerance and vacuum specifications justification, and schedule feasibility. The proposal deadline is February 13, 2026, at 3:00 PM CDT, with questions regarding solicitation interpretation due by January 4, 2026, at 3:00 PM CST.

This solicitation carries no set-aside designations and identifies no incumbent contractors. While no specific award value is disclosed in the solicitation documents, offerors must submit detailed pricing using F.O.B. Destination or DAP Lemont, Illinois terms with manufacturing country of origin and HTSUS codes. The project timeline spans 52 weeks from contract award for complete design, manufacturing, testing, and installation. Performance will take place at Argonne National Laboratory in Lemont, Illinois 60439, where the mirror system will be installed within the 12-ID-A hutch on an existing optical table with specified space constraints. Proposals must include three past performance references from the previous five years with similar scope and dollar magnitude, along with comprehensive technical documentation demonstrating compliance with strict vacuum, thermal, and vibrational performance criteria outlined in the revised Statement of Work.
