About this file

This document is an Addendum to a Request for Quotation (RFQ) from Argonne National Laboratory for a 12-ID High Heat Load Mirror System. The addendum extends the offer deadline to February 13, 2026, and makes two technical corrections to the original document: updating the minimum bending radius to R ≥ 10 km and adjusting the vacuum pressure to the 10-7 scale. The addendum also clarifies technical requirements, confirming the need for a standalone mirror system with a granite base mounted on a baseplate, an independent vessel/base on a metal frame, and a bender with an optic inside the vessel.

The solicitation seeks proposals for designing, manufacturing, testing, delivering, and installing a high heat load mirror system for the 12-ID beamline at Argonne National Laboratory. The contract is managed by UChicago Argonne, LLC under the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Office of Science. Vendors are required to submit detailed technical proposals demonstrating compliance with specifications, with the laboratory evaluating submissions using a Best Value/Trade-Off methodology. Potential offerors were instructed to submit any questions by January 4, 2026, at 3 PM CST, with responses to be distributed after January 5, 2026.

01/09/2026 This addendum is being issued to modify the subject REQUEST FOR Quotation (RFQ) 6-S176-Q-00096-00 as follows:

Offer deadline has been extended to FEBRUARY 13, 2026.

Please see the updated SOW.

Note the revised changes:

A.

In Table 3.1.1 we updated the Minimum bending radius to read: R ≤ 10 km from the previous R > 10 km. This was a mistake / typo that was not in the questions.

B.

In Table 3.4.1 we updated the vacuum pressure to be in the 10-7 scale which is consistent with the rest of the document.

1.The supply includes a bending system to obtain an elliptical shape. Could you please provide the elliptical parameter(s) for this mirror? The SOW indicates the location of the mirror at 28.737 mm from the straight-section center and a 2 mrad grazing-incidence angle, but doesn't give the distance between the mirror and the focus point.

We don't have specific requirements but wanted the elliptical bender to give us greater adjustability with a two-moment vs single moment. As stated, we require a minimum bend radius of 10 km cylindrical shape for tangential figure. However, to be specific, this is a collimation mirror. At the highest heat loading condition specified in the SOW, we would like to have a focal point at the position longer than 70m (or >50meters from the mirror).

2. The specification document and its technical requirements (stability, vibration and eigenfrequency) seems to dictate that a standalone mirror system is required which includes a granite base mounted on a baseplate, an independent vessel/base mounted on a metal frame, and bender with optic inside the vessel as shown in the sketch below:

This is correct. We would prefer to have a standalone system with an independent vessel / based mounted on a metal frame similar to the sketch provided. The SOW has been updated to provide further clarity on this.

3. If this is not the case and the system is to be mounted onto an existing optical table such as that shown below (which would have no granite base nor independent frame and as such the stability values could be compromised) then information such as the height and size of the table need to be supplied, together with the mounting hole information (diameter, thread type and centre to centre pitch).

See answer above.
