About this file

This written specifications document supports Mt. San Antonio College's prequalification process for the purchase of custom furniture (FF&E) for the new Technology and Health Building, a 273,000-square-foot, four-story facility in California. The project consolidates 10 departments and 26 academic programs currently distributed across six separate locations, including modular buildings and existing Technology and Health Careers facilities, into a single instructional environment. The specifications establish furniture design requirements based on a philosophy that emphasizes flexibility, dynamic learning environments, and programmatic identity through strategically placed, visually distinct, branded spaces. This prequalification phase evaluates contractors solely on their qualifications, experience, licensing, and ability to perform the scope of work; only contractors meeting prequalification requirements will be invited to participate in the subsequent main project solicitation. The provided specifications, drawings, plans, and supporting documents are for reference and informational purposes only during the prequalification review process and should not be interpreted as final bid documents or work authorization.

The specifications support evaluation of contractor capability to deliver custom furniture solutions for what will be the largest instructional facility of any community college in California. Contractors are required to submit prequalification packets by the established due date, demonstrating their qualifications and capacity to execute the project's complex requirements. The document serves as a foundational reference for prospective bidders to understand the general scope, complexity, and anticipated requirements of the Technology and Health Building's furniture and equipment needs, enabling informed assessment of their ability to meet the College's standards for this transformative campus project.

PART 2 - PRODUCTS

2.1 MANUFACTURER

A. Manufacturer: 3form, Inc., Salt Lake City, Utah, USA / telephone 801-649-2500

2.2 MATERIALS

A. Profile Crest

1. Flakeboard MDF

2. Starting Thickness: ¾”

3. Pattern to be carved as specified

4. Carved MDF to be wrapped in specified finish (or provided unfinished if specified)

B. Sheet minimum performance attributes:

1. Flame Spread and Smoke Developed (ASTM E 84). Material must meet a minimum Class B rating.

2.3 MOUNTING

A. PANEL CLEATS

To install Profile panels to the wall using Panel cleats, first Panel cleats must be attached to the back of the Profile panel. Panel cleats should run the entire width of the panel. A minimum of (3) rows of Panel cleats are necessary per 8’ tall panel. Rows of Panel cleats should be situated on the top and bottom edge of the panel, with additional rows spaced evenly between. Solid wood “in-wall” blocking is required.

B. DIRECT SCREW ATTACHMENT

Profile wall panels can be attached to a wall by screwing directly through the panel. Construction mastic should also be used to supplement the screws.

It is required to leave a 1/16” gap between panels to allow for expansion and contraction of the wood panels. This technique should only be used on non-wrapped panels that will be painted in the field. Holes in the panel should be pre-drilled and counter-sunk. After screwing the panel to the wall, a non-shrinking filler like Bondo may be used to cover the holes. Please note that non-shrinking filler should not be used between panels. A flexible seam filler should be used in between panels. This method is limited to a maximum of 6 panels.

C. CONSTRUCTION MASTIC

If using an adhesive to glue the panels directly to the wall, it is required to leave a 1/16” gap between panels to allow for expansion and contraction of the wood panels. An industrial grade silicone such as Momentive SilGlaze II SCS 2800 can be applied to the back of the panels in combination with 3M 4496 foam tape. Silicone should be applied in dots as it needs moisture (air) to cure. Alignment of the panels prior to curing is important as the panels may not be re-aligned after curing. Panel installations more than 16’ wide should use panel cleats.

2.4 MISCELLANEOUS MATERIALS

A. General: Provide products of material, size, and shape required for application indicated, and with a proven record of compatibility with surfaces contacted in installation.

B. Cleaner: Type recommended by manufacturer.
