Contractor shall be directed to perform additional cleaning procedures.

C. All tools and equipment shall be decontaminated and removed from the work area at the appropriate time in the cleaning sequence.

3.05 WASTE CONTAINERIZATION AND DISPOSAL

A. Removed ACM, along with plastic sheeting, rags, disposable personal protective equipment, etc. utilized in connection with asbestos abatement/removal work, shall be double-bagged using leak-proof bags that are appropriately labeled as asbestos containing hazardous waste in accordance with the requirements of the

EPA and Cal/OSHA ((T8, CCR, §1529 (k)(7)(A)). If outer container surfaces become contaminated with ACM, they shall be decontaminated with HEPA filter-equipped vacuums and/or wet methods followed by encapsulation of these surfaces. All such bags shall be placed in appropriately marked, labeled, and stored hazardous waste containers. The bins shall be pre-lined with a minimum of two layers of 6-mil plastic sheeting.

The Consultant may collect air samples at various locations outside work areas (e.g., at entrances to decontamination unit, at critical barriers, and at negative air exhaust) during abatement work. All such samples would subsequently be analyzed by phase contrast microscopy (PCM) in accordance with NIOSH Method 7400. The resultant data will be regularly reviewed by the Consultant, and if at any time such data exceed background levels or the U.S. EPA recommended “clearance criterion" of 0.01 fibers per cubic centimeter of air (f/cc), appropriate actions shall be taken by the

Contractor to bring the levels into compliance. If at any time, such data exceed the Cal-OSHA permissible exposure limit of 0.1 f/cc, the Contractor shall be directed to halt work until corrective actions are implemented to reduce such levels.
