SECTION BAYS 12-13 13-14 14-15.

34. Q: Are the use of explosives permissible on this site for rock excavation?

A: Explosives shall not be utilized per EM385-1-1, Section 29.

35. Q: Section 31 60 00 for foundation preparation discusses preparation of the bedrock surface and use of dental mortar. Is it the designer's intention to excavate all existing overburden to the bedrock, perform "preliminary cleanup,” and dental mortar prior to placement of aggregate base course beneath the mat foundation of the building? If this is the case, will the Government consider the use of an allowance to compensate the Contractor for preliminary cleanup and dental mortar work directed by the COR since this is an unknown condition?

A: The preparation of the site was performed under a separate contract.

36. Q: The Government COR/QA at the Fish Barrier site currently utilizes offsite warehouse and office space for their personnel, but the drawings indicate that the Contractor should provide field trailer(s) for the Government. Please advise if the Contractor should include the cost of office space for the Government on this project.

A: The contractor shall provide costs for the field trailer per specification section 01 52 02 TEMPORARY CONSTRUCTION FACILITIES. The cost for the existing USACE offsite office/warehouse should not be included in those costs.

37. Q: What is the minimum conduit size on this project?

A: A minimum of ¾”C per specification section 26 20 00 Interior Distribution, para 3.1.3.

38. Q: There is no conduit information on the telecom drawings. Please clarify the design criteria so we can size the conduit and needed or is the system to be based on conduit stubs with the cable being run open in the ceiling?

42. Q: Is Railroad Protective Insurance required?

A: Per specification section 01 10 00 GENERAL PROVISIONS, para 1.11, Burlington Northern & Santa Fe Railroad Company of Romeoville shall be an additional interest insured.

43. Q: In Amendment 0002, in response to an RFI it was stated that the contractor is responsible for setting grades on the ComEd electrical distribution manholes. Would the contractor then also be required to develop engineering drawings, i.e. Plan & Profiles for ComEd and Corps review/approval?

A: The construction of the ductbank shall be documented in the As-Built drawings provided by contractor per specification section 01 78 00 CLOSEOUT SUBMITTALS. In addition, the contractor will have to work with ComEd to obtain engineering approval and is responsible for providing all information ComEd will need to see before construction starts to verify the design meets their standards. ComEd standards require underground duct runs to have specific grade and cover requirements implying they will likely require detailed plans and profiles.

44. Q: Revised Drawing C-108 issued via Amendment 0002 shows what appears to be pavement striping where curb and gutter was shown previously. Please verify if this is correct or advise otherwise.

A: Correct. In Amendment 0002, the middle curbed island was removed and pavement striping was added.

45. Q: Revised Drawing C-107 issued via Amendment 0002 and RFI response #12 states the relocated fence is shown. It is unclear whether the fence has already been relocated or if relocation is part of this contract, please advise.

A: As issued in Amendment 0003, a note was added to Sheet C-107 to state the alignment shown is the proposed relocated location.

46. Q: Precast hollow core concrete plank bidders for this project are telling us the drawings lack sufficient information to bid this element. They need a 2nd floor framing layout of the hollow core planking and there limits, span direction, sections that show what supports hollow core panels and how they attach to structure, required floor loading, do they receive a topping slab, is topping slab structural or non-composite, are there any floor openings required? They also need a roof framing plan with the same information. They cannot bid the precast without this critical information.

A: Per Amendment 0004, drawing sheet A-111 HOLLOW CORE PRECASTS PLANKS PLANS has been added to the set.

47. Q: Please confirm polyiso thermal wall insulation shown on wall sections and provide specification. Does this apply to all exterior walls?

A: Yes, it does, and it shall conform to the requirements of Specification 07 22 00 ROOF AND DECK INSULATION paragraph 2.2.2 Insulation Types.

48. Q: What is the specification for acoustic ceilings and where does it apply?

A: There are no acoustic ceilings in this project. All the ceilings are constructed from steel studs and drywall.

49. Q: Column line 1 elevation / S-203 references further details for the elevated slabs, but does not specify the support walls. This is typical throughout sheets S-203 through S-207. Where is the information for the support walls?

A: See the CONCRETE WALL SCHEDULE on Sheet S-601 STRUCTURAL SCHEDULES for wall detail information.

50. Q: The foundation plan / S-101 show walls on the plan, that are not shown in the column line frame elevations. What is correct?

A: They are not considered part of the primary support frame. Please see the CONCRETE WALL SCHEDULE on Sheet S-601 STRUCTURAL SCHEDULES for wall detail information.

51. Q: Section 2 / S-304 does not specify the reinforcing for these stairs, or the landing slabs.

A: Per Amendment 0004, reinforcing notes have been added to Sheet S-304 STRUCTURAL SECTIONS SHEET 4 in Section 2- 207/304.

52. Q: Specification section 23 00 00 3.2.6 declares all ductwork to be continuously welded 1 ga. 304L or 316L in exposed areas. This job consists of mainly exposed duct, most of which is round. This will cost significantly more if this is the actual intent. The drawings have only the control room ductwork tagged as stainless steel and does not state it is to be welded.
