a. This Section contains blast performance requirements for the components listed. Reference the related specification sections for the other requirements that pertain to each component.
1. Exterior Glazing
2. Exterior Windows, Curtain Wall, and Storefront
3. Exterior Doors
b. Related Sections include the following:
1. Division 08 Section "Glazing"
2. Division 08 Section "Aluminum Framed Entrances and Storefronts"
3. Division 08 Section "Glazed Aluminum Curtain Walls"
4. Division 08 Section "Hollow Metal Doors and Frames"
1.2 REFERENCES
The publications listed below form a part of this specification to the extent referenced. The publications are referred to within the text by the basic designation only.
ASTM INTERNATIONAL (ASTM)
ASTM F2248 (2012) Standard Practice for Specifying an Equivalent 3-Second Duration Design Loading for Blast Resistant Glazing Fabricated with Laminated Glass
1.3 BASIS OF DESIGN
The sizes and makeups of performance specified members provided herein and shown in the Construction Drawings are provided to show the design intent.
However, it is the Contractor's responsibility to meet and demonstrate compliance with all requirements within this specification.
1.4 DEFINITIONS
a. Blast Consultant: Blast engineer for the design team.
b. Conventional Requirements: All performance requirements defined by other disciplines for architectural and structural components that are not related to blast requirements. These may include, but are not limited to, gravity, wind, seismic, thermal, and air and water infiltration performance requirements.
c. Coordination: It is the General Contractor's responsibility to coordinate connection design information between different trades and sub-contractors.
SECTION 01 81 23 Page 1
d. Nominal Material Strength: The published minimum strength of a component. For example the Nominal Material Strength of A36 steel is 36,000psi.
e. Structurally Glazed Unit: A window or curtain wall unit where the glazing is adhered to the surrounding mullion/frame with a structural silicone bead.
1.5 SUBMITTALS
Government approval is required for submittals with a "G" designation;
submittals not having a "G" designation are for information only. When used, a designation following the "G" designation identifies the office that will review the submittal for the Government. Submittals with an "S" are for inclusion in the Sustainability Notebook, in conformance with Section 01 33 29 SUSTAINABILITY REPORTING. Submit the following in accordance with Section 01 33 00 SUBMITTAL PROCEDURES:
SD-02 Shop Drawings
Facade Profiles; G
Submit shop drawings showing the proposed facade facade profiles that demonstrate compliance with the design intent. This applies to all blast resistant systems.
Anchorages; G
Submit shop drawings showing the proposed facade anchorages that demonstrate compliance with the design intent. This applies to all blast resistant systems.
1.6 QUALITY ASSURANCE
1.6.1 Qualifications
1.6.1.1 Manufacturer Qualifications
Manufacturers are acceptable providing they meet the requirements specified in this section and project drawings.
Window manufacturer must specialize in manufacturing the type of aluminum windows specified in this section, and have a minimum of 10 years of documented successful experience. Manufacturer must have the facilities capable of meeting contract requirements, single-source responsibility and warranty.
Ensure manufacturer is capable of providing field service representation during construction, approving acceptable installer and approving application method.
1.6.1.2 Installer Qualifications
Provide documentation of Installer experience as determined by Contractor to perform work of this section, who has specialized in the installation of work similar to that required for this project, and who is acceptable to product manufacturer, and other information as may be required by the Contracting Officer.

PART 3 EXECUTION
3.1 GLAZING
Basis of Design:
a. The minimum glazing makeup shall be as follows: Glazing in exterior building elements shall consist of a minimum 1/4" nominal laminated glass. The laminated glass shall consist of two nominal 1/8" glass panes, bonded together with a minimum 0.030" PVB interlayer. For insulated glass units, use laminated glass for the innermost pane as a minimum.
b. Glazing bite: The glass unit connections to the glazed unit framing shall be fabricated, and installed to meet the criteria specified in this section within the limits and under the conditions indicated.
