SECTION 15115
MISCELLANEOUS VALVES
PART 1 - GENERAL
1.1 WORK INCLUDED

1.2 RELATED WORK
A. Section 33 05 00– Water and Sewer Relocations.

1.1 SUBMITTALS
A. Submit copies of valve ordering schedule for review before ordering valves.
B. Submit detailed shop drawings. Clearly indicate make, model, location, type, size and pressure rating.
C. Submit operation and maintenance data.
PART 2 - PRODUCTS
2.1 ACCEPTABLE MANUFACTURERS
A. Provide valves of same manufacturer throughout where possible.
B. Provide valves with manufacturer's name and pressure rating clearly marked on outside of body.
C. Compliance with the Reduction of Lead in Drinking Water Act (2014) is required and all applicable products must meet the lead-free requirements and conform to NSF 372, where applicable.
2.2 VALVE CONNECTIONS
A. Provide valves suitable to connect to adjoining piping as specified for pipe joints. Use
15115-2 pipe size valves.
B. Thread pipe sizes 2 inches and smaller.
C. Flange pipe sizes 2-1/2 inches and larger.
D. Solder or screw to solder adaptors for copper tubing.
2.3 CHECK VALVES
A. The check valve shall be a full body flanged type with a domed access cover and the valve disc which is the only moving part.
B. The valve body shall have full flow equal to nominal pipe diameter at any point, through the valve. The seating surface shall be on a 45-degree angle to minimize disc travel. The top access port shall be full size, allowing removal of the disc without removing the valve from the pipeline. The access cover shall be domed in shape to allow the disc to be fully operational in lines containing a high solids content.
C. The valve body and cover shall be ASTM A126, Class B Cast Iron. The disc shall be
Buna-N (NBR), ASTM D2000-BG.
D. The interior of the valve shall be coated with an epoxy suitable for potable water. The exterior shall be coated with a universal primer.
E. The valve shall be Val-Matic Valve and Manufacturing Corporation, Series 500, APCO
Series 100, or approved equal.
F. All check valves to be equipped with Mechanical Valve Indicator and Backflow Actuator.
2.4 INSERTABLE STOPS
A. Insertable stops shall conform to AWWA C-500 and ANSI A-105.
B. Valves must be pressure rated for 250 psi.
C. Manufacturers: Hydra-Stop or approved equal.
2.5 TAPPING SLEEVE AND VALVES
A. Tapping sleeve and valves shall conform to AWWA C-500 and ANSI A-105.
B. Valves must be pressure rated for 250 psi.
C. Manufacturers: Hydra-Stop or approved equal.
PART 3 - EXECUTION
3.1 PRESSURE RATINGS
A. Unless otherwise indicated, use valves suitable for 125 minimum psig.

3.2 VALVE OPERATORS
A. Direction to open on all valves shall be to the left (counterclockwise).
B. Each valve body or operator shall have an arrow indicating the direction to open and the word open cast upon the body or operator.
3.3 VALVE BOXES
A. All buried valves shall be provided with valve boxes.
B. Boxes shall be cast iron, extension sleeve type suitable for depth of cover shown on drawings.
C. Valve boxes shall be a minimum of 5" in diameter.
D. Provide with suitable bases and covers. Covers shall have cast thereon appropriate name designating service for which it is used.
E. All parts of valve box bases and covers shall be coated by dipping in bituminous varnish.
F. Valves and valve boxes shall be set plumb and flush with grade.
G. Place in proper position and backfill around each valve box and thoroughly tamp.
3.4 EXTENSION STEMS
A. To lengths indicated in Drawings.
3.5 INSTALLATION
A. Install valves with stems upright or horizontal, not inverted.
B. Install gate valves for shut-off and isolating service, to isolate equipment, part of systems or vertical risers.
