About this file

This is Section 02 41 00 (Demolition and Deconstruction) of the technical specifications for the Fort Randall Powerhouse Elevator Replacement project. The section outlines detailed requirements for demolition and removal work associated with replacing the passenger elevator, including specific procedures for utilities disconnection, material disposal, and worker protection.

The specification requires the contractor to prepare and submit both a Demolition/Deconstruction Plan and Core Plan before beginning work. Key requirements include: protecting existing facilities and utilities that are to remain in place; maintaining dust and debris control through temporary enclosures; proper disposal of removed materials off government property with no on-site storage or burning permitted; salvaging and recycling materials where possible; and patching/repairing surfaces damaged during removal work. Specific procedures are provided for removing mechanical equipment, utilities, masonry, concrete, structural steel, and the existing elevator/hoist equipment. All work must comply with safety requirements per EM 385-1-1 and ASSE/SAFE A10.6 standards, with continuous evaluation of structural conditions during demolition to prevent collapse.
