Section 07 52 00, Modified Bituminous Membrane Roofing. Re: 2.1.a SBS Base Sheet, 2.1.b SBS InterPly Sheet, 2.1.c: SBS Cap Sheet. Specifications currently specify: Modified Bitumen Base, InterPly, and Cap Sheets meeting ASTM 6163 Type III. Proposed substitution: Modified Bitumen Base, InterPly, and Cap Sheets meeting ASTM 6164 Type II. ASTM 6163 (currently specified) requires a fiberglass reinforcing scrim within the modified bitumen sheet while ASTM 6162 (proposed alternate) requires a polyester reinforcing scrim within the modified bitumen sheet. ASTM 6162 Type II sheets can have equal or better mil thickness, the same surface granules, equivalent performance, and equivalent warranties. There have been far more installations in Hawaii of ASTM 6162 Type II than ASTM 6163 Type III. ASTM 6162 Type II products are readily available in Hawaii while ASTM 6163 Type III products are typically not found readily via local distribution, thus may be a potential source of delay.
See Am-0003, Section 07 52 00, References, para 2.1
