All temporary electrical wiring shall be removed prior to completion of the contract. The following requirements for temporary electrical wiring supplement that required in the references:

a. Single conductor wires such as Types WP, R, RH, T, and TW shall not be installed unprotected along the ground or walkways or within reach of persons on ground or walkways. These wires shall either be protected by conduit (except Type WP) or be supported by insulators beyond the reach of persons. These wire types are not acceptable for festoon lighting and shall not be used with insulation piercing sockets. For festoon lighting the use of 2 conductor No. 12 neoprene brewery cord is acceptable provided that where the cord is suspended, the use of wedge type strain clamps, such as "Reliable" Type PR is used to take the strain.

b. Type S, SO, or ST ("Tirex") shall be used where cords are subject to extreme conditions such as rocky ground, vehicle traffic, frequent moves along the ground, and frequent exposure to moisture.

Nonmetallic-sheathed cable and service entrance cable shall not be used as portable cord run along the ground or suspended in the air.

When exposed they shall be run against and fastened to continuous protective surfaces.

c. Only nonmetallic supports shall be used for installation of temporary electrical wiring; the use of baling wire and other like materials is prohibited.

d. Type NM (indoor) nonmetallic-sheathed cable shall not be exposed to moisture. For outdoor installation Type NMC or service cable shall be used and boxes used therewith shall be made of insulating material. Cabinets or cutout boxes installed where exposed to moisture shall either be rain tight or shall be protected from moisture.

e. Boxes and cabinets shall not have wires and cables passing through sharp edged holes. Individual wires shall enter boxes in conduit or through holes bushed with insulation material. Cables shall enter boxes through bushings or box connectors.

f. All metal which encloses live electrical conductors shall be grounded with the exception of isolated fixed boxes in dry locations and so placed that persons cannot touch the box and simultaneously touch or be standing on the ground, concrete or a grounded metal surface. The term "enclosure" includes safety switch and motor started boxes, panel board enclosures, switch and outlet boxes, and the frames of portable power tools. Metal stands for portable floodlights also shall be grounded. Water pipe or existing cable grounds shall be used whenever possible. All "made" grounds such as rods or pipes driven into the ground will provide a maximum ground resistance of 25 ohms or less. Ground wires connections shall utilize clamps or lugs so as to provide a mechanically sound, low resistance connection. Ground wires shall be of the size specified by the National Electric Code (NEC) and shall be run or protected to avoid injury. If subject to flexing or vibration, the ground wire shall be

SECTION 01 10 10.00 25 Page 13 stranded.

g. Grounding of portable electrical equipment including floodlight stands shall be accomplished by means of an extra conductor within the cord and an additional contact on the receptacle plug so arranged that the circuit and ground conductors cannot be interchanged. The neutral conductor shall not be used as the ground conductor. Mechanical protection and stranding of the ground conductor shall be equal to that of the circuit conductors. If a Contractor's portable equipment has plug caps that will not match receptacles equipped with a grounding connection, he shall replace the cord and plug to the proper type and permanently connect ground wire to equipment case.

h. Ground wires in portable cords shall always be identified by a green color and neutral conductors shall be white or gray. Special care shall be exercised in making up portable cords to be sure that the circuit and ground conductors are not interchanged.

i. The frames of all portable engine generator plants shall be grounded. This will usually entail a driven ground adjacent to the machine. The neutral wire of plants having an output voltage of 115/230 volts three wire also shall be grounded. All ungrounded conductors shall be protected by fuses of circuit breakers of no higher ampere ratings than allowed by the NEC.

j. The Contractor shall provide and maintain on the site a suitable ground testing device in use and authorized quality control personnel shall perform tests initially and subsequently whenever temporary wiring is altered to assure the adequacy of "man made grounds."

k. Welding machine leads shall be kept free of bare spots and splices shall be made using standard insulating splicing devices made for the purpose.

l. Every motor shall have a disconnecting means in sight of the controller location or arranged to be locked in the open position.

m. Only qualified journeymen electricians shall perform work on all temporary electrical wiring.

n. All concrete sawing and coring equipment shall be suitably grounded.

o. The Contractor shall use GFCI protected receptacles for providing power for his workers. This requirement shall only be waived where electrical equipment can not be operated with the GFCI receptacle and only after COR authorization. The COR shall provide this authorization for temporary use of non-GFCI receptacles only after he determines that no personnel shall be endangered by this temporary waiver.

1.16.4 Telephone

Telephone will not be available for Contractor use.

1.16.5 Water

All reasonable amounts of water for domestic use (not for concrete curing or construction purposes) will be made available from existing outlets and

1.17 GAS, VAPOR, FUME, DUST, AND MIST CONTROL IN POWERHOUSE

1.17.1 General

Necessary measures shall be taken to effect maximum control of gases, vapors, fumes, dusts, and mists created by Contractor operations under this contract. To the maximum extent possible, dust and dirt shall be removed by vacuum cleaning, unless otherwise approved. Prior to commencement of such operations, a written plan of the proposed Gas, Vapor, Fume, Dust and Mist Control Program shall be submitted to the COR for approval. The required Control Program shall include the following:

a. Provision of exhaust ducts which shall discharge outside the powerhouse structure where mechanical ventilation is used. Ventilation systems shall comply with requirements of 29 CFR 1910.94 and

29 CFR 1926.57 .

c. Furnishing and removing of approved dust preventatives in areas which cannot be properly rendered free from excessive dusting by vacuum cleaning or other methods.

d. Vacuum cleaning (or other acceptable method) of spaces within the powerhouse where dust accumulates.

e. Only air, electrical, propane, or battery-driven equipment may be used inside the powerhouse.

f. The powerhouse is pressurized to prevent dust infiltration from the outside. All doors shall be kept closed when not being used.

g. Methods to prevent exposure of employees to inhalation, ingestion, skin absorption, or contact with any material or substance at concentrations above those specified in 29 CFR 1910.1000 and

29 CFR 1926.55 .

1.17.2 Additional Provisions

Ventilation systems shall not interfere with traffic inside or outside the Powerhouse. Depending upon the Contractor's plant and equipment and methods of operation, additional provisions for satisfactory gas, vapor, fumes, dust, and mist control will be required and shall be included in the proposed Gas, Vapor, Fume, Dust, and Mist Control Program.
