Airfield rigid pavements shall be constructed with PCC having a minimum 90-day flexural strength of 650 psi, which value shall also be used for design regardless if concrete test results indicate a higher value

01 10 10 - 11 Amendment 0006 has or can be achieved. For frost design, use the more economical of “reduced subgrade strength” or “limited subgrade frost penetration” method with a frost group designation F3/F4, and a frost penetration depth of 35 inches. The attached 1977 Foundation Report and Corrosion Report for Aircraft Maintenance Facility did not include site specific test results for subgrade soil support values, and the 2014 Geotechnical Study by Epic Engineering for Hangar 45 (boring logs and lab data attached) did not include plate bearing tests. Therefore, the Government minimum rigid pavement design was based on historical test data indicating a subgrade modulus value of k=165 pci for projects on the west side of the airfield. If the Contractor chooses not to use the Government-provided values of CBR=8 and k=165 pci, the subgrade soil support values for their design shall be determined in accordance with UFC 3-260-02 Chapter 6, paragraph 3 and 4. The minimum pavement thickness designs listed below are provided by the USACE Sacramento District Soil Design Section and shall be verified by the Contractor. The Contracting Officer shall be notified if the Contractor's investigation results and design calculations indicate, in their opinion, that a thicker/stronger pavement section(s) is necessary; however, a thinner pavement section will not be considered by the Government regardless of Contractor testing or analysis results. “Percent of maximum” as used below refers to the minimum required in-place percentage of the laboratory maximum density as determined by ASTM D 1557 (Modified Proctor).

5.12.5.1.1 Hangar Floors (medium load, traffic area C) minimum section shall be 12 inches PCC over 6 inches aggregate base course @ 100 percent of maximum…
