Questions and Answers During Solicitation
Project: NES066
Q22. Sheet C4.02 notes that the new 8” fire protection water line is to be provided with a 2” recirculation line.
Sheet FP2.01 does not show a recirculation line and there is no requirement for a recirculation pump, although a pump will be necessary. To where does this recirculation line recirculate? Is the water being recirculated back into the existing 8” water line?
A22. Yes there will be a recirculation line on the fire water line. It will tie in to the recirculation line on the existing 8" line.
Q24. Sheet C5.04 shows no heat trace channel for the 2” recirculation pipe. Please confirm that no heat trace system is required for the 2” recirculation pipes and the 1-1/2” domestic water service. (Reference specification 33 61 14.00-2.6.)
A24. There is no heat trace in the recirculation line.
Q27. Hello Michael, when we talked on the phone I mentioned some products required for the project are discontinued. These products are all the Nora rubber flooring colors, and Daltile SN05, SN01. Another question I have is the accent colors. I need a diagram or a description as to how these colors are accents such as a border or placed every third tile, etc. to determine how much order.
A27. All Nora products are still available. We recommend referring to the Nora site for additional verification. The Daltile products required some substitutions by our interior designers...D317 (biscuit) replaces D317 (white), CP85 (mountain) replaces SN05 (silver smoke), and CP80 (beach) replaces SN01 (antique white).
Q30. Notice:
If you are using MasterFormat 2004 Edition, the proper section number to use is “Section 09 69 00, Access Flooring”, which appears below.
If you are continuing to use MasterFormat 1995 Edition, the proper section number to use is “Section 10270, Access Flooring”. Please change the section number below if required.
SECTION 09 69 00
ACCESS FLOORING
A30. Regardless of numbering preference, the information is available. Numbering will remain as is. Follow specification provided, unless amended. Refer to following Q/A instances for additional information regarding access flooring.
Q31. 1) SUBJECT: Floor Panels
DRAWING/SPEC: Section 09 69 13 DESCRIPTION: Per Section 096913. paragraph. 2.1.2.1 to 3 What type of floor panel is required?
Steel Panels?
Cement Filled Panels?
Wood Core Panels?
A31. Metal
Q32. 2) SUBJECT: Room Finish Schedule / Specifications
DRAWING/SPEC: A7.02/Sections 09 65 00 and Section 09 69 13
DESCRIPTION: Room finish schedule shown Rooms 112 to have EMI floor covering and Room 114 to have
RF1/RF2/RF3.
Section 09 69 13, 2.1.3, 2.1.3.1 - Room 112 and Room 114 is scheduled to have raised access flooring with anti-static Vinyl Composition Tile. Supplier’s option to provide 12” x 12” or 24” x 24” goods.
A32. Follow Room Finish Schedule regarding finishes. Please refer to Q27 (above) for additional finishes info. A revised Room Finish Schedule will be provided to reflect current materials.
Q33. In the Finish Schedule A7.01; Room 112, does this get the same finish as Rm114?
A33a. Please, follow what is indicated in the Room Finish Schedule.
In the Finish Schedule A7.01; Room 114, Please explain RF1/RF2/RF3. are there color zones in the floor? If so, what sqft of area gets what color? Can you provide a floor covering drawing? This has an impact on pricing.
A33b. The varying RF finishes are to create a patterning. An electronic file is to be provided with this response for reference, indicating patterning.
Q35. 1) There is a spec section for the Mobile Shelving Units (106810). However on the drawings Sheet A2.02 there is a note that states “NIC” for the “file storage system”. Please verify that this is one and the same and not in this contract.
A35. The Mobile Shelving Unit was intended to be provided in the furniture purchase. Follow drawings and disregard specification mention of the Mobile Shelving Units
Q36. 2) Sheet C5.02 has a detail for “Bollards”. However there are no bollards called out on the civil drawings.
Please verify that there are no bollards on the Civil.
A36. Follow Architectural plans/details regarding bollards.
Q37. In Division 10, section 10 68 10, Mobile Shelving Storage – Powered; I can tell by the drawing that the moveable unit should be about 16’ wide on a track about 36’ long but there is no indication as to how tall the unit should be, how many shelves you require per unit and the number of file supports you would like to have per shelf.
Will you please let me know these requirements?
A37. Refer to response to Q35 (above)
Q45. The published hardware specification does not support the requirements of an access control system (prox readers, mag contacts and electric strikes) as shown on drawings E4.01, E4.02, and E7.06.
Please provide the appropriate hardware schedule if these items are required.
A45. Revision to the hardware specifications and the door schedule (possibly) will have to be made to reflect the inclusion of electronic components. Electronic components will be required.
Q46-Q49. I’m having some issues getting answers to a less than complete spec for Div 9, Section 09 69 13, rigid grid access flooring.
1.) The finish schedule does not inform us of what is called out for floor finish for the access floor, for flooring type or color A46. (1). Flooring finish in this room is indicated within the Room Finish Schedule. Additional info from the Interior Designer will be provided in order to indicate patterning.
2.) Section 096913, 1.2, submittals, SD-03, specifically prohibits zinc electro plated anti-corrosion coatings. Please clarify and explain.?
A46 (2). Due to prior USACE encounters, Zinc plating has been prohibited. Follow specification as is. This is a USACE standard requirement. Please, elaborate as to why this is of concern.
3.) No reflective floor plan is laid out for the access panel floors. This in itself is not a huge problem, but layout items, such as electrical cutouts, size of boxes, number of boxes, mechanical diffusers, etc. should be laid out to make sure its all correct. Please clarify.
A46 (3). Please follow electrical and mechanical plans for the additional information mentioned.
4.) Section 096913, 1.3, system description, specifically states “ access flooring must be installed at the location and elevation and in the arrangement shown on the drawings.” Please clarify. We have not found any drawings to work from.
A46 (4a). A flooring pattern will be provided, indicating pattern.
Plus:
b.) requires equi-potential plane grounding. Please clarify.
A46 (4b). Stringer system shall be electrically continuous per spec 09_69_13 para 1.3.b. Stringer system shall be grounded per 09_69_13 para 1.3.9 and drawings E5.01 and detail 3 on drawing E7.04.
c.)Submit certifications for: compliance with ICC-ES AC300 – please clarify.
A46 (4c). Per spec submit systems manufacturer's proof of compliance with AC300.
Q50. Under Part 2 products, 2.1.2, panel construction, calls out three types of floor panels. Hollow formed, metal clad cementitious, or metal clad wood. However, the specs do not specify what the govt. wants for this project.
Please clarify.
A50 (a). Provide metal panels. Cementitious or wood are not permitted.
The floor covering 2.1.3, states the flooring materials must be firmly bonded with waterproof adhesive, but the flooring finish is not specified. Please clarify.
A50 (b). Flooring finish is provided. Please, refer to Room Finish Schedule (A 7.02)
Q51. Under 1.4 delivery, storage and handling, it states, “store all materials in safe, dry and clean location….panels must be stored between 40 degrees and 90 degrees F and 20%to 70% humidity. However, under Products, 2.7, Cutouts, it states, “ cutting of panels must be performed outside of building”. Please clarify how you anticipate unloading and storage in mid winter and how you anticipate the cutting operation if not allowed in the building in mid winter. Please clarify.
A51. There are numerous ways to accommodate these requirements simultaneously. Due to liability issues, we cannot provide solutions at this time. Please, consult the site supervisor for coordination.
Q52. Under Part 3, Execution, 3.1.1, call for structural concrete floor systems to be thoroughly cleaned. Also, floor coatings required for dust and vapor control must be provided prior to pedestal installation. However, if the coating and pedestal adhesive are not compatible, then the floor coating goes on after the pedestal installation. Please clarify what product goes on as a sealer, who supplies and installs it and who does the cleaning and application of the sealer product.
A52. We do not provide this information. This is typical of contractor responsibilities.
Q53. 3.2 Field tests – please describe the procedures for acceptance tests.
3.4 Fire safety – calls out for an automatic detection system installed below the raised floor. Please verify what is required and whom is responsible for this spec call out.
There are numerous other details that need to be addressed in this spec section that offer background but not defined requirements. Also, the finished flooring product is not specified, i.e., high pressure laminate, color or type, or vinyl tile, or carpet, etc. Please clarify.
A53 (c). Flooring finishes are provided. Refer to Room finish Schedule (A 7.02)
Complete and accurate drawings of what the govt. expects and wants, inclusive of mechanical and electrical requirements are needed to accurately and cost effectively bid this segment of the work. We look forward to your prompt response to the questions outlined above and getting definitive answers PRIOR to quoting on this project.
Q66. Drawing A2.02 states; File Storage System as indicated by dashed linetype is for reference only and will be provided under seperate contract (NIC). What is the purpose for specification 10 68 10? Is this storage system to provided under this contract?
A66. This item is not to be included in this contract. Please, refer to the response to Q35
Q108. 1. Sheet 7.02 Finish Schedule is very specific about the products to be used in this project. The specifications seem to contradict the finish schedule in places. My question is this, are the products on the finish schedule the products you wish to have installed on this project. Is there any provisions for an alternate “or equal” product.
A108. Please, follow the finishes listed in the Room Finish Schedule.
Q109. 2. In the color and material Legend under Rubber Flooring, in the remarks section, there is reference to a “logo color cut on floor” Is there a logo to be color cut on the floor? Is there artwork to be associated with this Logo?
A109. There is a logo that has been provided by the interior design contractor. This will be provided for reference.
Q110. 3. In stair 102 and 113 the finish schedule calls for Rubber Tile, do you wish to have rubber treads and risers as well? Or is it just rubber tile on the landings.
A110. Rubber treads and risers are the correct material.
Q111. 4. In Mechanical room 208 the finish schedule calls for carpet, Mechanical rooms with floor drains typically do not have carpet, is this in error, or do you wish to have carpet installed as stated on the finish schedule.
A111. This was in error by our interior design contractor. A revised Room Finish Schedule will be provided, indicating proper finish.
Q113. I did not see the casework specification addressed in the addendum 2 on 1/20/09, nor since. Is the casework solid hardwood frames with hardwood plywood exposed surfaces, or is it frameless with laminate exposed surfaces as per my question on 1/15/09? Will my question below be addressed prior to bid?
