About this file
This document appears to be a Technical Exhibit detailing the major operational units and processes of a Sewage Treatment Plant (STP). The key details include:
The STP consists of various buildings and processes such as the Headworks Building with bar screens and grit chambers, the Equalization Basin, the Oxidation Ditches with aeration and mixing, Clarifiers, Tertiary Filtration, UV Disinfection, and Digesters with sludge dewatering. The STP is designed to handle an average daily flow of 4.0 MGD. The document provides a brief description of the function and equipment for each major unit operation.
The related federal contract opportunity is a solicitation for Base Operations Support Services at Fort Carson, CO. The contractor will be required to provide maintenance, labor, materials and repairs for facilities, structures, buildings, and utilities classified as real property. The services include grounds maintenance, pavement clearance, facility maintenance, heating/cooling, and wastewater services.

Brief Description Major Operation Units in the STP
The following is a brief description of each of the major individual units in the STP:
Headworks Bldg # 3904
Bar Screen - The automatic rotary bar screen is activated by channel depth according to a sensor mounted in the influent flow channel.
Compactor- The compactor is programmed to run with the bar screen and five (5) minutes past when the bar screen completes its cycle.
Aerated Grit Chamber/Traveling Bridge- The aerated grit chamber is used to settle out grit and heavy solids from the influent stream. Air keeps BOD is suspension while the heavier material settles in to the trough. A submersible pump on a traveling bridge then sucks up the grit and deposits it in a channel that flows to the grit separator.
Grit Classifier- Settled material from the grit chamber is introduced to the classifier where it is further dewatered and sent through a conveyor to a dumpster for landfill disposal.
Influent Flow Measurement - An ultrasonic flow meter and Parshall flume with a 12" throat measure the influent flow.
Building 3911:
Equalization Basin - There is one equalization basin with two 15 hp sub-surface mixers per basin. The capacity of the basin is 220,000 gallons. There are 4 submersible pumps and electronic valves that regulate the flow from the equalization basin to the loop reactors.
The other 220000 gallon tank is now a RAS fermentation basin. It has three slow speed mixers, ORP and Ph metering and is controlled with electronic valves for filling and distribution. Flow is measured with a magmeter located in a vault downstream.
Buildings 3906/3907:
Oxidation Ditches - The two identical continuous loop reactors with diffused air fine bubble aeration are designed to handle an average daily flow of 2.0 mgd each. Each tank is 163' long, 7- ' wide with a side wall depth of 23'. Each ditch has two (2) submersible slow speed banana blade mixers, each ditch is also equipped with three LDO meters and controls, Ph meter and control, ORP meter processing and control.
Building 3904:
Three (3) 125 horsepower positive displacement rotary compressors supply air to the loop reactors. Six
(6) total jacketed submersible RAS pumps collect settled solids and return them to the reactors. Two (2) surface wasting pumps pump skimmed foam from a wet well to the digesters for processing. Two (2) positive displacement rotary pumps send waste activated solids to the digesters for further processing.
Four peristaltic pumps inject alum from the 10000 gallon alum storage tank to various points within the process.
Buildings 3903/3905:

Clarifiers - The two clarifiers have diameters of 85', side wall depths of 12' and center depths of 13'.
Building 3901:
Tertiary Filtration - The sand filters are of continuous back wash design and are located in the Filtration/UV Disinfection building.
Ultraviolet (UV) Disinfection - Two banks of UV tubes are set in series to disinfect plant effluent as it proceeds through the channel. There are two separate channels for redundancy.
Effluent Flow Measurement - An ultrasonic flow meter and a Parshall flume with a 12" throat measure the effluent flow.
Buildings 3913/3914/3915:
Digester - There are three aerobic digesters. Each digester has a diameter of 54' and 12' deep.
Digesters have diffused air aeration. The digested sludge is directed to the sludge belt filter press.
Building 3916:
Sludge Filter Press - One each, two-meter belt press unit is used to dewater chemically conditioned aerobic sludge.
