CVWF Description 1 Jan 2023
Central Vehicle Wash Facility
The Fort Carson Central Vehicle Wash Facility is designed for high-speed washing of tactical vehicles. The facility consists of 20 wash lanes and 4 birdbath lanes. 2 birdbath lanes are multiuse and 2 are for tracked vehicles.
The facility recycles its water for reuse. A series of holding ponds allows heavy solids to settle before being pumped from the pump house through a sand filtration system to clean the water. Filtered water is pumped back up to the Wash Lanes and Birdbath for reuse. The CVWF holds between 6 and 8 million gallons of water on site for continuous wash efforts when needed.
Water is pumped from the reservoirs through the pumphouse by 13 pumps to needed areas. Pressure is controlled through PRV’s to ensure piping is protected.
The CVWF can schedule up to 200 vehicles a day and has 2 lanes open for unscheduled vehicles at any time the facility is operational. The facility is not operational below 40 degrees Fahrenheit or during lightning storms. Units with more than 5 vehicles need to schedule in advance by contacting the CVWF staff. Units with less than 5 vehicles can use the 2 unscheduled lanes. Units that schedule the Birdbath are required to provide the personnel to operate the cannons and hoses during the wash effort.
